We are offering an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Dietitian with an interested in paediatrics to join our friendly team. We are a team of 5Paediatric Dietitians and 1 Dietetic Assistant.

An enthusiasm for paediatrics is essential, and previous experience would be beneficial. However, full training can be provided. The post would be a mix of general paediatrics and work within the Paediatrics Diabetes MDT.

The post holder will provide dietetic support for a caseload of around 175 children and young people, mainly with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as part of the MDT, and with support from the Dietetic Lead for Paediatric Diabetes.

Main duties of the job

This is a clinical role working within children and families. You will have a high degree of autonomy in your clinical practice an day-to-day organisation of your workload, within the context of a supportive team of peers.

Your application should include details of your recent clinical experience including any areas of specialism. We also require details of your qualifcations, CPD and registration.

The successful applicant will be expected to travel between the two main hospital sites (The Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital), and to carry out home visits as needed.

You will be involved in our diabetes MDT (which runs in the evening twice a month), deliver Level 3 Carb Counting education and provide structured education for families.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Person Specification



  • Degree in nutrition and dietetics or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration



  • Between 24 and 36 months post graduate experience
  • Evidence of post graduate short courses
  • Relevant student training course or qualification
  • Evidence of CPD and reflective practice
  • Communication skills (verbal and non -verbal)
  • Evidence of group working and team working
  • Evidence of audit and/or research work.


  • Membership of professional bod



  • Evidence of participation in health, safety and risk management
