Due to retirement, we have a 8b Lead Psychologist position with the responsibility for the provision of psychological services for people who are admitted to our acute adult wards and who are working with the Home Treatment Teams.

These are fast moving, dynamic environments where your skilled and creative application of psychological input for service users, their families and carers, and the multidisciplinary staff teams will be highly valued. We are committed to developing a trauma informed service which provides the best possible care for every person.

Main duties of the job

In your leadership role you will be working with the Clinical Lead for Inpatient and Urgent Care, senior leaders and multidisciplinary colleagues, service users and family members, and experts by experience to help coproduce our service development.

You will need to draw on your relational skills, leadership knowledge and skills, and application of psychological knowledge in this endeavour. In your clinical role you will be working directly with clients with severe and enduring mental health needs who are experiencing a crisis with their mental health, and the networks around them, to provide assessment, shared formulation, and psychological interventions.

You will provide consultation to teams and systems, to ensure the best possible input for the person.There will be significant opportunities to contribute to staff development and wellbeing, training and supervision. Job responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialist Clinical Leadership across the Trust for service users with complex severe and enduring mental health difficulties across the urgent care pathway.
  • Coordinate and provide specialist assessment, formulation, consultation, training and supervision.
  • Provide operational management within adult mental health services as required.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for their practice whilst utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development.
  • Contribute to policy changes within the areas supported by the service and assess the needs of service users, suggesting areas for development
  • Work alongside colleagues in psychological services to ensure effective implementation of best practice.

Person Specification



  • Registration with HCPC as detailed in Job Description



  • Substantial experience working with adults with severe and enduring mental health needs
  • Previous leadership experience in clinical service


  • Experience working as a qualified psychologist in inpatient and urgent care (with acute wards and / or home treatment teams)
  • Experience of leading and delivering quality improvement / service development projects
  • Experience of developing psychologically informed environments
  • Experience of working across the lifespan and across a range of specialities

Additional Criteria


  • Experienced in the practice of specialist evidence based psychological therapies (eg CBT, MBT, etc.)


  • Skills and experience in teaching multi-disciplinary professionals, and of designing training programmes
