An exciting opportunity has arisen within out Emergency Surgical Unit and Same Day Surgical Assessment Unit for a Band 7 Emergency Surgical Nurse Practitioner.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable with excellent communication and organisational skills. Most importantly the applicant must have unlimited enthusiasm and motivation to undertake this new role in the department.

The candidate can be a Band 7 who is qualified in a practitioner role and has the appropriate qualifications and experience.

The post is also open to any staff applying as a trainee at a Band 6. Trainees will undergo a training programme led by the lead Emergency Consultant and the Surgical Clinical Matron and will be expected to complete the relevant modules to become competent to perform this role. On completion of this training and evidence of competency this role will progress to a Band 7.

This role will be full time and out of hours work may be required as the service develops.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the acute emergency service unit led by the speciality lead and matron for Surgery. The post holder will provide excellence in care within their sphere of responsibilities. Communication between all members of the team is vital to the success of this role

The post holder will help to facilitate learning of medical and nursing staff who work in the department. The post holder will ensure through demonstrating their own competency and through role modelling that care is provided to a high standard

Prescribing, daily ward rounds for emergency surgical patients, assessing and clerking acute surgical emergency referrals, ordering investigations, interpreting patient results and formulating treatment plans and data collection.

The post holder will be based in the speciality of emergency general surgery and working predominately in the acute admissions unit working alongside the admitting team on call

The post holder will be an experienced surgical nurse who uses their specialist knowledge to support the on call team

The post holder will be required to undertake the following university modules:

Non-Medical Prescribing and Clinical History examination
