At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals we are proud to be the Comprehensive Stroke Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. We are looking for a motivated, caring, skilled Physiotherapist to join our MDT in delivering excellent care to our fabulous patients.

The Stroke Therapy team is committed to service development we currently deliver a 6 day service to our patients on the Hyper-acute, acute and Rehabilitation Wards. Our vision is to expand this further to a 7 day service in the future.

We have big plans for our service! This post will give you the opportunity to develop your leadership and expert clinical skills whilst being fully involved in service development. Rotating across the stroke pathway between hyper-acute, acute and rehabilitation wards you will gain great skills in multi disciplinary management and rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

You will have skills in managing complex neurologically impaired patients and in managing patients with respiratory complications post Stroke.

As well as a clinical role in delivering high-quality care to our patients you would also support more junior members of the team and students. You would be given the opportunity to develop your leadership skills by participating in service development with the support of 2 Clinical Lead Physiotherapists.

At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals we are committed to Continuous Professional Development. There are 3 Health Academy's across the 2 sites and a dedicated organisation development (OD) team. They provide high quality in house leadership development programmes and many other useful courses.

You would have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive in-house Neuro teaching programme which receives excellent feedback from participants.

Duties to include but not be limited to:
  • To directly support the delivery of therapy to patients
  • To provide leadership and management support
  • To support personal and people development
  • To communicate and collaborate with all Core Therapies Service stakeholders
  • To support service development and planning
  • To help to ensure the health, safety and security of users of the Core Therapies, self and colleagues
  • To support the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda within the Core Therapy Services
  • To support equality of opportunity and access within the Core Therapies for both staff and patients.
  • To provide and use information to support admin processes and patient care
  • To support financial and other resource management within the Core Therapies

Person Specification



  • HCPC registration
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of CPD


  • Member of CSP
  • Clinical Educator



  • Experience in the NHS as a Physiotherapist
  • Proven varied experience of relevant rotational posts.
  • Range of transferrable skills.
  • Experience of managing complex Stroke/neuro patients.
  • Experience of managing complex discharges.
  • Experience of respiratory Physiotherapy.
  • Supervision of assistants
  • Experience of MDT working
  • Knowledge of current evidence base within Stroke.


  • Introductory Bobath modules or equivalent neuro course.
  • Understanding regional and national drivers influencing service provision.
