We have an exciting opportunity to join the Medical Education Team at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, as a Senior Medical Education Officer. This vacancy has arisen due to promotion within Medical Education of the previous post holder.

The Senior Medical Education Officer is responsible for leading the planning and delivery of education and learning to a specific group of doctors in training. This role will provide business support for senior medical staff and will frequently liaise with the chief of education, clinical leads and chiefs of service with regards to the rotation of doctors in training in their respective areas.

You will be joining a fantastic team who all work together to ensure that all doctors in training, who rotate through the Trust are well supported and receive high quality education and support.

The primary focus of this role is to support the doctors in training who work at the hospital across multiple specialties.

Person Specification



  • Educated to secondary/further education level (A Level or equivalent qualification/experience)


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.



  • Experience working in a fast paced environment
  • Experience of working with senior staff
  • Experience of taking minutes, creating and managing databases
  • Experience with handling accurate and sensitive data and confidential situations


  • Clear understanding of GMC regulations and educational requirements
  • Ability to provide training and guidance



  • Detailed understanding of training and curriculum development acquired through formal training or relevant experience.
  • Robust project management knowledge and / or evidence of experience.


  • Understanding of medical education.
  • Working knowledge of the NHS.
  • Evidence of the Trust values and behaviours



  • Ability to develop and co-ordinate complex educational programmes with a wide range of external and internal clients and organisations.
  • Ability to explain complex situations, understand issues and difficult situations and act sensitively and confidentially.
  • Medium to advanced MS Office knowledge including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Very high standards of written and verbal communication.


  • Knowledge of complex administrative procedures
