An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to operationally manage the Berkshire West immunisation team covering Reading, West Berkshire, and Wokingham localities. The immunisation team is commissioned to provide a routine and catch-up immunisation service to children and young people across Berkshire, delivered in schools, community clinics and in children's homes.

The post holder will provide highly visible, professional leadership, management, and expertise to the immunisation teams, ensuring that the service provided is of a high quality and meets the key performance indicators set by the commissioners.

The post holder will develop a specialism within the field of childhood immunisations and a greater understanding of the needs of the health needs of the 0-19 population, which the localities you oversee. You will develop excellent working relationships with the screening and immunisation team, within NHS England, along with developing close working relationships with the designated local authority public health teams and integrated care boards, within West of Berkshire.

The post is advertised as 37.5 hours year-round, but consideration may be given to work the hours over 41 weeks (this would mean that all holidays would need to be taken during the school holidays and not during term time). The post holder would be based out of Wokingham Hospital and would be expected to travel across the three localities of Berkshire West.

Main duties of the job

  • To operationally manage the Berkshire West immunisation team, covering the localities of Reading, West Berkshire, and Wokingham ensuring the smooth and safe running of immunisation sessions and clinics
  • To ensure that the required uptake/ KPI's are met for all vaccination programmes.
  • To understand the health inequalities across the West of Berkshire and to tailor the provision of immunisations to reduce inequalities and improve uptake to vaccination services.
  • To supervise and co -ordinate the deployment of team members, including management of annual leave, study leave, sickness, and vacancies to ensure effective service delivery.
  • To work within the delegated budget, present costs, and options to be agreed with locality manager to ensure financial control total is achieved.
  • Represent the service at ICB, organisation wide and multi-agency meetings.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse or midwife (registered with the NMC)
  • Experience of continuous professional development


Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with children and young people within a community setting
  • Safeguarding knowledge and experience
  • Previous experience providing line management and supervision to staff


Desirable

  • Previous experience managing a team
  • Previous experience of working within an immunisation team/ role/ setting


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to use own initiative, work independently and autonomously and prioritise workload
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent Communication Skills
