Hours: 15 hrs per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Nurse to join our Cancer services department working with our Lung Cancer service managing rapid assessment and acute treatment pathways. The post holder will also be a Responsible Officer for Lung health Checks, coordinating the service at an operational level ensuring the efficient running of the service.

We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse with demonstrable good clinical experience within this field who is able to function well in a team as well as under their own initiative and who can respond to changing service priorities with this patient group.

You will deliver and support high standards of clinical care both as a direct care giver and indirectly through the support and education of the wider workforce.

This rapidly expanding modern and busy unit offers many training opportunities for their staff. This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Specialists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Information and Support Centre.

We firmly believe in holistic care, complementary therapy, clinical psychology and Citizen Advice Bureau all have clinics in the unit. We also offer carers and patient support groups.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the work of Lung cancer nursing across the hospital.

This leadership role will encompass:
  • Clinical assessment, treatment, care, and support of patients at all stages of their pathway
  • Information and support to patients, families, and carers
  • Clinical support of senior nursing and medical staff in decisions regarding care and treatment plans

It is expected that the individual will be: an expert practitioner in nursing with a high level of clinical credibility the ability to establish close working relationships with senior nurses and medical staff the ability to influence policy and practice.

The post holder will work closely with the Respiratory and oncology medical and nursing teams.

Undertakes assessment and treatment of patients with Lung cancer.

Makes judgements involving complex facts or situations which will require analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options in order to reach the best decision with an individual patient.

Planning and organisation

Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of procedures and policies related to the care of Lung cancer patients.

Actively participates in external networks and attends events on behalf of the hospital.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Degree or Diploma


Desirable

  • MSPP/ENB998 or equivalent teaching/mentorship qualification
  • Post-graduate Lung cancer module or equivalent
  • Master's degree or working towards
  • Independent nurse prescriber or working towards
  • Lung cancer/respiratory qualification
  • Advanced communication skills training


Experience

  • Relevant experience at band 6 or 7 in respiratory and lung cancer care
  • Experience of leading and developing clinical practice
