Are you interested in furthering your career in community dietetics and have a particular interest in education and training, along with maintaining a clinical caseload?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a newly commissioned new Food First community dietetic team, who will be working across care homes and primary care in Milton Keynes.

The successful candidate will be part of planning, delivering, and evaluating the Food First approach and programme - including training health and social care staff and auditing current practice.

This new service been commissioned to level up Milton Keynes with similar services across Bedfordshire and Luton. The Milton Keynes team will consist of 2 further members (Dietetic Team Lead & Dietetic Assistant Practitioner), working as part of the community dietetic service.

Main duties of the job

This post is suitable for an experienced band 5 dietitian or a band 6 dietitian.

Some working from home will be possible on a regular basis

You should have good communication and time management skills, with an ability to be flexible and have a strong commitment to teamwork. The successful candidate will work closely with the community and acute colleagues, and with the existing Food First teams across Bedfordshire and Luton.

You will be joining our wider team based at Milton Keynes Hospital of over 30 registered dietitians, dietetic support workers and admin staff, covering acute, community, paediatric and learning disability services.

To plan, deliver, evaluate, and support the Food First approach and programme - including training health and social care staff and auditing of current practice.

To demonstrate specialist clinical assessment and treatment skills for an agreed caseload of patients.

To provided a specialist service to people identified as at risk of malnutrition and to provide education and training to health and social care professionals and unqualified carers.

To provide line management for junior team members with support from the Food First Lead.

Job responsibilities

To assist, support and supervise junior grades and students contributing to their professional development including appraisal and personal development plans.

To build good working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team working between different disciplines.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management.

To provide a clinical service to a referred complex caseload of patients, clients and carers referred to the service for nutritional support by other health professionals.

To recognise the need for continuous professional development. Within the performance system and in discussion with the team leader, the post holder will be responsible of identifying and attending their own training and professional development needs.

To feedback learning from training to inform other members of the department to enhance service development through up-to-date knowledge and expertise.

Person Specification

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • An appropriate degree recognised for registration with the HCPC
  • Registration with HCPC as Dietitian
  • Documentary evidence of CPD, equivalent to post graduate level experience.


Desirable

  • Further formal training, courses, or structured self-study in specialist field (nutritional support and / or training & education)
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Membership of appropriate professional interest groups


Experience

Essential

  • Strong post-registration experience in dietetics (confident in general dietetic practice in a variety of settings)
  • Accurate anthropometric skills
  • Experience of planning and delivering education to patient groups
  • Experience working with other specialist practitioners in the field.
  • Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA) code of practice and professional guidelines
  • Ability to plan and deliver training sessions to healthcare professionals
  • Commitment to engage in CPD and department appraisal system
  • Competent use of IT equipment and basic software
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and evidence-based practice


Desirable

  • To have sufficient previous clinical experience alongside specialist practitioners to allow for all areas of practice to be undertaken without daily guidance or supervision.
  • Student training experience
