A fantastic band 6 OT rotation opportunity to work across place in Kingston and Richmond which will enable you to develop and integrate your OT skills and knowledge in social services, community and acute settings

We are committed to close partnership working across place HRCH, Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust and Richmond and Wandsworth Adult Social services to provide excellence in patient care across our organisational boundaries. This Rotational Band 6 Occupational Therapy Post aims to provide employment opportunities to enhance understanding and collaborative working.

Rotations will be in the following 3 areas, spanning 9 months each:
  • Care of the Elderly, Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust based at Kingston hospital.
  • Richmond Response and Rehab team, Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare Trust based at Teddington Memorial Hospital
  • Long Term Complex Care Team, Richmond and Wandsworth Adult Social Service based in Twickenham.

Within each rotation you will have opportunity to:
  • complete quality improvement project
  • training on equipment, adaptations, seating, moving and handling, assessment and intervention for complex comorbidities and long term conditions.
  • Participate in in service training and peer support.


Main duties of the job

Applicants are expected to work autonomously and as part of the wider MDT.

Main duties may include but are not exhaustive of managing own caseload, liaising with MDT, moving and handling assessments and patient centred goal setting. You will be working closely with patients, family members, carers and acute/ community partners to deliver individualised treatment programmes. You will also be facilitating clinical supervision, student development and service improvement initiatives including audits, pathway developments and service promotion.
  • Care of the Elderly, Kingston Hospital-Providing occupational therapy assessments and interventions to a wide variety of patients in liaison with the multidisciplinary team in care of the elderly inpatient clinical setting. Mon- Fri 8-4 with some weekend working
  • Richmond Response and Rehab team- working with patients in community setting to prevent admission/facilitate discharge from hospital and working in the community to maximise functioning to enable them to remain at home. This involves assessment, patient centred goal setting and case co-ordination. Working pattern across Mon - Sun 8 am to 8p
  • Long Term Complex Care Team -specialist assessment and intervention planning for provision of adaptive and rehabilitative therapeutic approaches to maximise functional independence in ADLs within homes of patients with complex disability needs including prescription of specialist disability equipment and minor and major adaptations.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/ diploma in OT and HCPC registered


Desirable

  • Membership of relevant clinical interest groups


Experience

Essential

  • Completed a minimum of two years qualified Occupational Therapy experience
  • Post graduate experience that covers core skills in rehabilitation including therapeutic handling and management of people with complex conditions.
  • Broad clinical experience including orthopaedics, general medicine, neurology and older adults
  • Ability to contribute to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants


Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of Home First/ Discharge to Assess pathway and occupational therapy as part of hospital discharge


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner and have the ability to organise, prioritise and delegate work
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications
