Are you a dynamic HR professional looking to contribute to a busy but supportive HR team?

We have an excellent opportunity for someone to join our HR Function working with the Employee Relations team.

The role involves supporting and advising managers with a range of HR issues which include absence management, probation, AWOL, flexible working, investigations and minor misconduct disciplinary. This is a varied role which would suit an organised, customer focused HR professional.

Previous Employee Relations and casework experience essential

We are a flexible team and this is a hybrid role which can be based either at Colchester of Ipswich, however, a requirement and willingness to travel between sites as and when necessary is needed.

Main duties of the job

  • Support line managers with general advice, ensuring all advice complies with legislation and is in line with Trust specific policies and processes
  • Provide guidance to line managers on how to manage potential ER issues at the informal stage prior to any formal action and necessary follow on actions
  • Provide practical advice and guidance to line managers on how to manage formal ER issues in line with the Trust policy.
  • Ensure line managers are clear on how to conduct meetings, including advice on meeting preparation and how meetings should be chaired and concluded

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Participate in the Trusts negotiating and consultative arrangements and to encourage joint solutions to problems and issues in the interests of the Trust and its workforce.
  • Research, develop and advise on new and existing Human Resources policies in accordance with best practice.
  • Actively participate at directorate/departmental meetings, providing information regarding Trust wide HR related topics
  • Participate in and lead working parties or multi-disciplinary groups on Trust-wide and Human Resources specific topics, contributing to overall development and Human Resources practices.
  • Design and deliver training programmes on Human Resources related topics to increase understanding and awareness of the Trusts Human Resources policies and standards.
  • Act as investigating officer adhering to Trust policies.
  • Attend formal hearings, eg disciplinary hearings and appeals, providing Human Resources support at these, and attend those of a complex nature in a secretarial support capacity ensuring notes are accurate and reflect the nature and complexity of discussion.
  • Provide Human Resources support to senior Human Resources colleagues within the Directorate as appropriate, which may also involve medical staffing and workforce matters.
  • Act as chair of groups and Trust lead on HR matters as required by senior Human Resources colleagues.
  • Project manage Human Resources initiatives as required.
  • Participate in job matching/evaluation panels.
  • Prepare and actively participate in Trusts annual Performance Development Review process and progress reviews.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Human Resources generalist experience - working as an HR adviser/practitioner
  • Experience of handing employee relations casework
  • Experience of working within a pressurised and busy environment
  • Experience of minute/note taking
  • Microsoft Office and IT experience
  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Proven ability of working in a team environment and delivering team objectives
  • Experience of drafting HR policies and procedures


Desirable

  • Experience of working with staff at all levels within a large and complex organisation
  • Experience of working in an environment which provides a front line service to customers
  • Experience of providing first line advice to managers and employees
  • Experience of analysing complex information and highlighting key issues


Qualifications

Essential

  • Management/Business/Administration degree or proven management experience at equivalent level
  • Specialist qualification (or working towards) e.g. CIPD post grad diploma
  • Certificate in personnnel practice or equivalent qualification


Desirable

  • Member of relevant professional body e.g. CIPD,


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of policies and procedures, regulatory and legislative rules including current employment legislation
