Would you like to join a dynamic fast paced team offering patients chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood product support? Would you like to learn new skills and assist in the administration of intrathecal chemotherapy, then come and join our Haem team in our day case unit. Full training will be given to the right candidate. As a registered nurse you will be expected to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am-8pm, and Saturdays on a rotational basis 8am -4pm. You will ensure our patients needs are met through the delivery of high quality care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out any nursing procedures. The ideal candidate would already be intravenous trained, and willing to undertake the chemotherapy working in new package. You will be expected to be able to cannulate and perform venepuncture, you will be fully blood transfusion trained, able to take cross match samples, and collect blood products. You will be expected to be NEWS2 trained and be able to recognise sepsis. You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to convey information concisely when needed. You will ensure that you comply with our clinical governance framework, you will motivate colleagues and drive continuous improvement. Clinical

Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate.

Document the condition and progress of patients and report to medical staff and/or senior nursing staff any areas of concern.

Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines.

Demonstrate clinical procedures to registered and unregistered staff as required.

Once competent in team management skills, take charge of the clinical area on a regular basis.

Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.

Liaise with other clinical areas providing appropriate policies, education and clinical expertise in order to facilitate the management of patients with special requirements.

Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently

Person Specification

Training and qualifications

Essential

  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Trained to give Iv medications
  • Able to cannulate and venepuncture
  • Able to administer blood products
  • Continuing professional development/ reflective profile
  • Completion of all local competency packages


Desirable

  • Have or willing to undertake a suitable Teaching & Assessing Qualification
  • Possession of a Mentoring Course
  • Chemo giver
  • Diploma or degree in health / nursing related Studies


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Supervision of non-registered staff and students


Desirable

  • Evidence of ability to mentor
  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work
  • Experience within Haematology
