Children and Young People's Mental Health Services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin have received additional investment to improve the support available. As a result, we are excited to advertise a number of new roles, to welcome clinicians who want to work in Children's Mental Health Services. Where people are interested in applying but would need to relocate we can support financially. Where people are interested and passionate about working with children but have identified additional training needs, we may be able to train staff to develop the appropriate skills

We are looking to enhance our therapeutic provision to children and young people within our BEEU Core (CAMHS) team and are seeking an individual who has relevant experience and qualifications to fulfil a role as a dedicated Art Psychotherapist Practitioner.

The Art Therapist will be a member of the core multi-disciplinary team responsible for accepting, prioritising and assessing referrals to the Service and offering specific psychotherapeutic interventions in the form of art therapy to children and young people referred into secondary mental health services, in the geographical area ofShropshire, Telford and Wrekin. This involves individual, and group Art Psychotherapy work, along with other Psycho-Educational groups as required. This can entail the role of case holder.

They will be a senior clinical member of the Multidisciplinary Team, playing a key role in promoting and providing high quality Art psychotherapy treatment to children and young people.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide assessment, Art psychotherapy interventions for children and young people (both for individual and group therapy) and may be ' hard to treat', and difficult to engage in other forms of psychological treatment.
  • Responsible for accepting, assessing and offering interventions for children and young people with complex communication and relationship difficulties.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BA Honours in Fine Art or related subject with demonstration to commitment to established practice of art.
  • MA in Art Psychotherapy


Desirable

  • Additional/Previous professional qualification in related field (e.g. teaching, nursing, mental health)
  • Leadership qualification/ experience


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience working with groups with co-morbidity (e.g. Eating Disorders, ADHD, Trauma/abuse)


Desirable

  • Experience of working with children and young people following episodes of serious self-harm including overdose.
  • Ability to make creative and therapeutic use of modern media for information, engagement and service development.
