This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trusts plans to build new hospitals. With an award-winning, multi-disciplinary Programme Team and as one of the largest new hospital projects in the UK, the Trusts Programme Team combines clinical and design expertise, construction/project management excellence, and specialist roles. We are looking for a Project Manager (Technical & Construction).

As a construction focussed project manager, you will be responsible for leading delivery of the design and construction processes for new build, remodel/refurbishment, and infrastructure schemes from inception to completion/handover and the resolution of defects. You will demonstrate an excellent ability to work with a range of stakeholders.

The role should be considered an on-site role with the opportunity to take advantage from the Trusts flexible working policies. The role shall be required to work from any of the Trusts premises, although is expected to be predominantly based at the LGI site or nearby premises.

Main duties of the job

The BtLW Project Manager (Technical & Construction) shall be responsible for supporting and leading technical-related design and construction workstream matters and the delivery of construction focussed projects including new build, remodel/refurbishment, and infrastructure schemes from inception to completion/handover and the resolution of defects. It is expected that the role will have a technical construction focus that will include providing support and leadership to the development and management of technical design/works matters and overseeing the delivery of site works including being familiar with site works quality matters and site health and safety processes.

The role will work closely with the BtLW PMO to ensure that there is robust governance and that projects and activities are managed effectively. Similarly, the role will work closely with the BtLW Communications Team and Engagement Lead to ensure clear messaging across the programme keeping stakeholders informed and enthused about the scheme.

This will be a dynamic role where you will be involved in several projects at any one time, providing the opportunity to manage large scale change and bring our vision for the new hospital to life.

Job responsibilities

The post holder, alongside the Senior Project Manager, will be responsible for the planning, co-ordinating, and reporting of technical matters across technical design/construction related workstreams and construction-related projects including matters relating to quality, health and safety, and other construction related matters throughout the project lifecycle including during the pre-construction, construction, and handover/operationalisation and defects stages.

The post holder will have excellent communication skills, both written, verbal and non-verbal. The role involves communicating amongst members of the multi-professional team, senior teams including Directors and Executives within the Trust and our patients and their families. The role will work across boundaries within the Trust and externally. The post holder will also work with other Project Management staff dedicated to this Programme to support the delivery of workstream activities. It is expected that the post holder will have responsibility for the management of external specialist consultant advisers and/or other staff as may be commensurate with the grade.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in relevant discipline/ or demonstration of relevant transferrable knowledge and skills.
  • Post graduate qualification to Masters level or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development


Desirable

  • Project / Programme Management Qualification such as Prince 2, APM PMQ, MSP or equivalent experience.
  • Technical related design and construction project management training and qualifications.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of managing projects (capital or non-capital) and/or sub-projects within larger programmes.
  • Experience of delivering construction related projects in a healthcare related and operational site environment.
  • Experience in establishing project plans, tracking progress, managing resources, and delivering projects on time and within budget.


Desirable

  • An understanding of NHS Strategic drivers for Capital schemes such as Net Zero Carbon, Modern Methods of Construction and Digital Hospitals.
  • Experience of working within/involved in the delivery of capital projects
  • Knowledge and experience of building design processes and good hospital design principles.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and including presentation skills.
  • To have demonstrably strong influencing, negotiating and communication skills and the ability to listen and respond to the needs of a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Able to communicate highly complex sensitive information.

  • The ability to work under pressure within an area which is developing and fast moving, where the rules and direction of travel are not always well-defined
  • Ability to deliver reports and other papers to tight deadlines and rapidly switch between multiple pieces of work in order to respond unpredictable service demands
  • Ability to secure engagement with well-developed leadership and confident communication skills, willing to challenge and be challenged
