The post holder is encouraged to be a member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and should be registered with the institutes Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists (VRCT). The post holder must at all times carry out duties and responsibilities with due regard to the what?
The post holder must at all times respect patient confidentiality and, in particular, the confidentiality of electronically stored personal data in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
The post holder is expected to take responsibility for self-development on a continuous basis, undertaking on-the-job and other training as required.
The post holder must be aware of the individual responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and identify and report, as necessary, any untoward accident, incident or potentially hazardous environment.
Main duties of the job
The Technical Service section of the Clinical Engineering Department is responsible for delivering the complete technical infrastructure required to provide all forms of medical equipment.
Management across the whole Trust and satellite sites. This infrastructure includes support and technical specification of services such as: Regularly undertake medical equipment repair, service, calibration and testing.
Acceptance testing, commissioning and licensing of new equipment, including evaluating equipment and adaptation if required.
Able to take action based on own interpretation of clinical policies and initiate action. Ability to prioritise work, and to work autonomously and in isolation from other departmental staff.
High-level understanding of the risks to patients and staff arising from the use of a wide range of specialist medical equipment.

Essential
- Degree, HND, HNC, BTEC, OND, ONC in an appropriate engineering discipline, i.e. Electronics, Mechanics etc
Desirable
- Registered Clinical Technologist
- Additional training and specialist knowledge of medical and engineering practices
Experience
Essential
- Five years specialist experience in all aspects of the management of clinical equipment, or has equivalent technical service experience
- Extensive knowledge of test procedures used to verify safety and performance of a wide range of medical equipment
Desirable
- Registered with the VRCT (Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists).
- Experience of working under a Quality Management System
- Knowledge of stock control systems
