Full time, 37.5 hours per week - initial 12 months secondment

An opportunity has arisen to recruit 1 wte, Band 8a Operational Manager for the South West locality of South Staffordshire Adult Mental Health Services.

Applicants should currently be working as a Band 7 leader within South Staffordshire Mental Health Services and have a high level of experience in a management / leadership role.

This specialist post requires the applicant to have an in-depth understanding of the business of the service and be committed to delivering at a senior management level.

The successful applicant will hold a comprehensive understanding of the Community Mental Health Transformation program and the ongoing priorities for Mental Health Services across our Integrated Care System.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage the team/s in accordance with Trust values and Care Group objectives.
  • Be integral and take a lead in driving forwards the principles of Community MH Transformation.
  • Participate as a lead member of the Operational leadership Team in the formulation of operational plans which take into account local, regional and national drivers.
  • Develop local team objectives and plans across designated portfolio in conjunction with the Head and Deputy Head of Operations to deliver services in line with the integrated care agenda and care group objectives.
  • To lead on embedding quality improvement within teams to drive forward service development and innovations through implementation of MPFT quality improvement and lean methodology.
  • Work with Service Leads and Head of Operations on service development and redesign and effectively manage service change across the workforce.
  • Work with the MH Leadership Team to identify and implement efficiency savings through the review and redesign of services.
  • Ensure active service user involvement in the design, development and delivery of services.
  • Influence Trust-wide practices and policies by contributing to the development of Trust policies as they impact on aspects of MH Community Services.
  • To actively engage and contribute to IT steering groups across the care group around the development and effectiveness of IT systems which support system wide working.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Existing Band 7 leader within MPFT South Staffordshire Mental Health Services
  • Experience in operational and/or project management role in the NHS.
  • Significant senior leadership experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of leading service developments.
  • Experience of managing significant budgets to financial balance
  • Experience of services/projects and/or delivering clinical services
  • Experience of delivering service changes and developments.


Desirable

  • In-depth knowledge of local commissioning and provider context including health, social care and education.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to manage teams of staff and allocate resources to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and proposed initiatives impacting on health services.


Qualifications

Essential

  • First level professional qualification e.g. registered nurse, social worker, AHP or management.
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent experience in relevant clinical, professional or managerial role.
  • Evidence of ongoing continued professional development


Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in management and/or leadership.
  • Project Management qualification
  • NHS Leadership academy qualification
