An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join Sheffield's Community Stroke Service where we strive to deliver high quality care and rehabilitation to stroke patients in their own home/community setting.
Sheffield's Community Stroke Service is co-located with a 31 bedded specialist inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit which forms the wider Integrated Community Stroke Service.
The successful post holder will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team comprising of specialist clinical therapists, nurses, psychologists, and assistant staff to deliver evidenced based care and rehabilitation. The post holder will demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of stroke care and rehabilitation and understanding of the national stroke care and rehabilitation guidelines. The ability toevaluate and optimise delivery of stroke rehabilitation in patients home or community-based setting will also be key in the successful candidate.
Please note successful candidates must have a valid UK driving licence.

Main duties of the job
- Carry a clinical caseload including complex specialist cases, requiring clinical reasoning and highly specialist therapy, assessment, planning and prioritising own work.
- Delegate clinical duties to therapists and/or assistants ensuring they have appropriate knowledge, understanding and competence. Provide training and supervision.
- Gather, analyse and evaluate information to identify problems in partnership with the patient, carer and colleagues.
- Select and use appropriate assessment techniques for the patient's own home and/or in the community. Make clinical diagnosis and apply clinical reasoning.
- Negotiate, agree expectations and set appropriate, realistic and individualised therapy goals in partnership with the patient, carer and colleagues.
- Set up equipment for therapy and ensure it is used safely by patients, carers, staff and/or students.
- Teach, guide and supervise patients as individuals or in group.
- Contribute to service improvement work.
- Supervision of band 3/4/5 staff as required.

- BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification
- Current HCPC registration
- Specialist post-registration training programmes

- Post-registration experience sufficient to acquire core competencies in Occupational Therapy practice for medical, surgical and neurological conditions and the knowledge and skill to manage a complex specialist caseload in the chosen field
