We have an exciting new opportunity for a motivated individual to join our team as the Ward Manager for the Discharge Waiting Area (DWA).

As the Ward Manager for DWA, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a timely flow within our organization, directly influencing patient outcomes at the front door. This position is not just about managing a ward it's about leading a vital part of our patient care process and making a real difference. Your leadership will be pivotal in supporting our team to improve the safe discharge of patients, ensuring they leave our care with the best possible outcomes

The ideal candidate will have:

- Proven experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a managerial or leadership role.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

- A commitment to improving patient outcomes and enhancing discharge processes.

Main duties of the job

- Lead and manage the Discharge Waiting Area, ensuring high standards of patient care.

- Facilitate timely patient flow to enhance outcomes at the front door.

- Implement and oversee safety protocols to ensure safe and efficient patient discharge.

- Support staff development and foster a positive, collaborative working environment.

Engage in innovative practices and lead initiatives that enhance patient safety and discharge processes.

STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete on call duties within their role.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Educated to Degree level in Nursing
  • ENB 998 or equivalent


Desirable

  • Must be willing to undertake Degree within a set time frame, if not already obtained.


Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Considerable post Registration experience, with experience at Band 6 level in relevant specialty.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the NMC Scope of Professional practice.
  • Demonstrates experience and skills in managing staff
  • Experience of working on own initiative and prioritising workload.
  • Track record of building and maintaining effective working relationships with all disciplines.
  • Demonstrate commitment to education, training and personal development.
  • Developing strategy and programme of clinical audit within the ward setting.
  • Risk management experience.


Desirable

  • Interest in research & audit


Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Well-developed leadership style.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Computer literate or willing to undertake IT training
  • Highly self-motivated and able to manage the interface with the Multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to take on an extended role and willing to undertake further training as required.
  • Flexible approach to working hours/duties and able to expand duties as the role develops

  • Counselling skills
