An opportunity has arisen for a full time Consultant Psychiatrist to join the well-established Redditch & Bromsgrove CMHT for Older People in Worcestershire.
The team comprises 1 WTE Team Manager, 1 WTE Consultant for Redditch (postholder), 1 WTE for Bromsgrove, 5.2 WTE Community Mental Health Nurses, 2.8 WTE Occupational Therapists, 1 WTE Psychologist, 2 WTE Healthcare Support Workers, 4.2 WTE Medical/Team Secretaries.
The CMHT provides a service to people over 65 years of age with a secondary mental health need. Redditch has an approximate population of 16,000 people over 65 years old.
The team is supported by a Home Treatment Team as well as a Duty and Triage Team that screens new referrals and undertakes urgent assessments, if required.
Leadership and management activities actively encouraged and supported.
Office base at New Haven Unit, Princess of Wales Hospital, Bromsgrove.
The post is supported by a junior doctor.

Main duties of the job
On a day-to-day basis the Consultant Psychiatrist will be in a close working relationship with Redditch & Bromsgrove Older Adult Community Mental Health Team.
They will have a close working relationship on clinical matters with the multi-disciplinary team and provide important liaison with the Duty & Triage Team, and other doctors in Primary and Secondary Care including the Home Treatment Team.
They will be expected to supervise and manage Junior Doctors and all Senior Nurse/Advanced Clinical Practitioners within the clinical team.
On a more strategic level they will relate to the leadership and management structures of the Adult Mental Health and Learning Disability Service Delivery Unit.
From an overall professional prospective they will support the Clinical Directors and relate to the Medical Director all are ultimately responsible within the Trust to the Chief Executive.

Job responsibilities
Providing direct psychiatric services through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, care planning and treatment formulation, as well as guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
Treatment planning and regular reviews in the community that comprehensively address the bio-psychosocial needs of patients.
Providing psychiatric leadership to the multidisciplinary team and clinical leadership in collaboration with the team leader.
Serving as psychiatric liaison with other agencies particularly with regard to continuity of patient care. This is particularly important in complex cases when liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies is necessary.
Assuring the involvement of families and carers wherever possible with the patients consent in treatment planning.
Mental Health Act implementation as part of community work. Additionally, assessments under the Mental Capacity Act both within the locality and on rarer occasions Countywide.
To participate in the Consultant on call rota covering out of hours responsibilities including weekends.
Special emphasis on working within appropriate governance frameworks will be necessary in the area of the Mental Health Act (including Community Treatment Orders), the Mental Capacity Act, Choice and Control and the safety of patients, carers, staff, and the general community.
The development of any other clinical interests could proceed on the basis of appropriate funding being available. The appointee will be expected to develop his or her clinical role within the framework of the Trust's strategy and within its financial constraints. Dedicated sessions may be available by agreement.
Flexibility to shape and respond to changing service requirements.

- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems within specialty.

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment).

- Approved Clinician status (or eligible for approval)
