We are delighted to advertise the post of a Band 7 Specialist Acute Medical and Elderly care Physiotherapist which combines both clinical and leadership opportunities in an established team.

We are a amazing Physiotherapy department base at WCH. This role will work within the new state of the heart rehab facilities and wards due to open in July 2024

Main duties of the job

The specialist nature of this role will require the post-holder to act as a clinical resource for other therapists and health professionals.

To practice in accordance with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Rules of Professional conduct and Health Professions Council regulations.

To undertake a team leader role, in consultation with the line manager, in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to acute medical and eldercare on a day-to-day basis

To be clinically and professionally responsible for highly specialised physiotherapy assessment and treatment, working as an autonomous practitioner managing patients with a wide range of highly complex conditions, within both medical, elderly care wards and admissions units determining clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: �18 + Administration cost of �3.85 = �21.85. Deducted at �6.85 from 1st month salary and �5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: �38 + administration cost of �3.90 = �41.90. Deducted at �11.90 from 1st month salary and �10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Chartered Society of Physiotherapy recognised degree or equivalent in physiotherapy.
  • Health and Care Professions Council registered.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy


Desirable

  • Evidence of post-registration education, specifically in the critical care and medical fields, at Master's level or equivalent


Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Postgraduate experience, some of which should be at Band 6 grade or higher.
  • Proven post-graduate skills in the assessment, treatment, and management of medical and elderly/frail conditions including in on call situations.
  • Experience of student supervision in role of clinical educator
  • Awareness of key NHS drivers (Nationally and Locally) for change and implications for physiotherapy services in MSK care including the NHS Long Term Plan
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
  • Evidence of previous involvement in clinical research/ service or pathway development in acute medical/elderly clinical practice and or services.
  • Responsibility for an area of work, e.g. health & safety, in-service training, clinical audit, R& D.
  • Awareness of current initiatives within the Local and National health economy.
  • Advanced clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of practice relating to Elderly and Medical fields.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Knowledge of quality issues and CQC


Desirable

  • Membership of a relevant special interest group.
