Main duties of the job
- Work closely with the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse to co-ordinate the activity of the ward to ensure appropriate levels of staff and resources are available in relation to workload and acuity.
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure staff are aware of their responsibilities. Monitor incidents, accidents and complaints, participating in the investigation and taking of corrective action.
- Work closely with the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse and Clinical Educators to create an educationally supportive environment and to assist in the audit of that provision.
- Support the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in the maintenance of the framework of Healthcare governance and understand responsibilities to patients for assessing risk, health and safety legislation including the use and decontamination of clinical equipment, information governance and quality assurance measures.
- Cover as surgical bleep holder in the absence of Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse/Matron and fulfil the duties outlined within the Bleep Holder Responsibilities File.
- Support the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in all aspects of his/her role to ensure the smooth running of the ward.
- Support the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse completing all audits and requirements of QUEST , Safety Risk and Quality Nursing Dashboard and Infection Control accreditation.
