The Royal Cornwall Hospital is currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer to join our Interventional Radiology team.

The Diagnostic Imaging Department has recently achieved accreditation through the Quality Standards for Imaging (QSI) and has been inspected and rated by the Care Quality Commission as 'Outstanding', the highest possible rating.

The Clinical Imaging Service is county wide offering patient's high quality diagnostics in their local community hospital or specialist services at the Royal Cornwall, St Michaels and West Cornwall Hospitals.

Dependent on experience the successful candidate may initially start as a Band 5 Trainee IR Radiographer. We have an accelerated pathway for Band 5 to Band 6 progression. The successful candidate is given comprehensive training in IR alongside leadership skills.

You will be a valuable member of the team in the provision of a quality led and timely imaging service. We actively support and encourage Radiographers in their career development and are committed to providing increased opportunities to widen specialist skills, extend roles and deliver advanced practice. There is an active CPD and audit calendar within the department with involvement from all staff groups.

Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of a wide range of diagnostic and interventionalprocedures carried out in the IR theatre suite, the Cardiac Catheter Labs and the gastrointestinal/general fluoroscopy suiteTo work with the IR Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost effective delivery of the IR service.To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours IR service including 'on-call'.To act as shift co-ordinator in the absence of the IR Team Leader or Advance Practitioner, taking responsibility for the operation of the IR department, including prioritising the workload, managing workflow and staff resources to ensure the highest standards of patient care are achieved.To make operational management decisions out of hours in the absence of the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner in IR.To work with the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the IR service.Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and Clinical Imaging protocols.To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 17), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulations (IR(ME)R 2017) and the Trust Radiation Safety Policy.Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists and colleagues within clinical multidisciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive optimum care

ClinicalTo support the delivery of a wide range of IR examinations and procedures within Clinical Imaging.To perform a wide range of radiographic examinations and specialistfluoroscopic procedures within Clinical Imaging as well as in theatres, on wards and in the Emergency Department.To maintain a high level of clinical and technical expertise in IR to ensure the safe operation of all equipment.To support the delivery of IR and participate in the wider Clinical ImagingService i.e. Trauma, Acute and General radiography as required.To administer drugs and intravenous contrast agents in line with Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and local protocols.To undertake all clinical imaging examinations in a professional mannerensuring a high standard of clinical care.To recognise anatomy and pathology (within scope of practice) to enableoptimisation of imaging and to liaise with Consultant Radiologists to arrange further images/scan sequences when required.To carry out all clinical imaging examinations to the highest standard, adhering to IRR17 and IR(ME)R 2017.To provide the highest possible standard of care to patients and their carers.To act as shift co-ordinator in the absence of the Team Leader or AdvancePractitioners, prioritising the workload, facilitate effective workflow and manage staff resources to ensure the patients receive optimum care.To be reflective, flexible and autonomous in thinking and outlook.To take an active part in quality, working in partnership with the Governance Lead in carrying out risk assessments and audits.To observe all Clinical Imaging protocols and procedures.To observe Trust policy on the reporting of incidents.To produce and implement action plans as a result of incidents.To be responsible for the care of all Clinical Imaging equipment andaccessories including maintaining a high level of cleanliness.To report all equipment faults to the equipment manufacturer or maintenance contract provider and the Team Leader or Advanced Practitioner, without delay.To ensure that any operational difficulties are reported to the Team Leader immediately.To work effectively under pressure.

Qualifications

Essential

• DCR(R) or BSc Hons (Radiography) in Diagnostic Imaging. Current state registration through HCPC.

Desirable

• Post graduate qualification.

Experience

Essential

• Good level of post graduate experience
• Trauma, Acute and general experience
• Portfolio evidence of relevant experience in Clinical Imaging

Desirable

• IR experience
• Cannulation and administration of IV drugs
• Experience of shift co-ordinator duties.
• Experience in Interventional Radiology
• Clinical experience in other imaging modalities
