An opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Nurse Specialists to join our Palliative and End of Life Care service within The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidates will work alongside Palliative Care Healthcare Assistants, Senior Medical Secretaries, Nurse Specialists and Palliative Care Consultants to deliver high quality compassionate care. You will also work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in assessing and managing patients' symptoms. We are seeking to recruit highly motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic nurses to join our team. As a Nurse Specialist you will demonstrate a good level of knowledge and skills within the specialty of palliative and end of life care. You will aim and strive to work autonomously and make critical judgements using expert skills and experience. You will participate with the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care outcomes for patients. It is expected you will contribute and participate in palliative and end of life care education and training across the organisation. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills and demonstrate leadership qualities and abilities.
Main duties of the job
Within the Palliative Care Service, you will be expected to participate in service development. Therefore, having an awareness of national, regional and local drivers relating to palliative and end of life care is essential. The ability to relate this to clinical practice is also a requirement. Please evidence knowledge of NHS policy or project specific policy context and appropriate understanding of adult/child safeguarding within your application form.
Important skills and qualities required to excel in this role include excellent IT skills, good time management and organisational skills. Emotional intelligence, leadership skills (including influencing and engagement), accountability and professionalism will also benefit you within this role.

Candidates must be registered nurses and a nursing diploma, or equivalent experience in a specialist area is essential. Working towards a degree is desirable.
