We are looking for current Band 5 nurses interested in a development opportunity to become a clinical educator and part deputy sister. Here in Endoscopy we take pride in providing our staff with further opportunities for training and progression and with an increase in the number of Registered Nurses working with the team we are looking to appoint an additional clinical educator to support learning and development.
We are looking for someone with a real passion for working with learners such as nurses undergoing return to practice and overseas programmes. supervised practice, pre and post registration programmes and those in bands 1-4 looking to progress. You will need to be able to share and demonstrate best practice with the team to deliver the high quality, safe and compassionate care our patients have come to expect. You will work under the Lead Nurses and Sisters to support learners, their mentors and supervisors in the workplace. You will actively engage and train other members of the department and you will support senior management in the effective running of the clinical area. Senior support will be provided at all times.

You will need to have the underpinning knowledge and assessed level of competence to undertake this role. The post holder must have a foundation degree in health studies or equivalent, for example a diploma in higher education or a higher national diploma (level 5). Job responsibilities
- Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct and work within limits of competence.
- The clinical educator in consultation with the Nurse Lead and Unit manager is required to assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of clinical education and staff development programs aimed at developing, maintaining and continually enhancing the clinical skills of staff working in the unit.
- To be a visible presence in the on both sites (NNUH & QI) working clinically alongside learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives. They will be required to be clinically based in this role in carrying out hand on care whilst supporting learners.
- To provide support for those supervising and mentoring students/learners on a range of programmes.
- To support mentors of pre-registration students and enable protected time for mentoring.
- Liaise with other local/regional hospitals to develop shared learning/educational sessions.
- To work closely with the Unit manager & Lead nurse to deliver teaching sessions, including clinical teaching, on in-house programmes of study.
- To provide advice and guidance alongside with the unit manager where there are performance issues with learners, working alongside learners and developing bespoke learning objectives
- To support new models of mentorship and a coaching approach to learner support where this is achievable.
- To assist the unit manager in contributing to the audit of practice placements and maintenance of the audit cycle.
