We are looking for a compassionate psychologist to join us at Roseberry Ward, Lanchester Road Hospital in Durham. The post would suit an enthusiastic Psychologist, valuing the opportunity to work collaboratively with members of an innovative and established multi-disciplinary team, with significant opportunities to develop the role of psychology in older adult functional mental health inpatient services.

We are keen tosupport and invest in the ongoing development of our Psychologists through CPD opportunities, so an interest in developing clinical skills across a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches is essential. The Psychologist would have the opportunity to gain experience working with a diverse population, providing assessment, formulation and brief governed psychological therapies in an inpatient functional mental health setting. The successful applicant will have opportunity to specialise in an area of interest. In addition to being part of an MDT, MHSOP offers the opportunity to bepart of a psychology team. There are opportunities to engage in research projects and the department has strong links with the Teesside Doctoral training course with regular opportunities to work with core, specialist and research trainees.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be joining a well-established older adult functional mental health inpatient ward. The post will involvement working in an inpatient setting with a supportive and collaborative multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to older adults following inpatient admission, alongside brief psychological interventions. A key part of this role will be using clinical leadership skills to influence teams to embed formulations, psychological understanding, and psychosocial interventions and governed psychological therapies in everyday practice. There are significant opportunities to support workforce development through supervision, advice, consultation and training, and there are multiple opportunities to be involved in service development opportunities.

An enthusiasm and experience of working with older adults and their families and carers is important, as well as the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team and with our multi-agency partner organisations. We are keen to support the ongoing development of Psychologists through training and CPD opportunities. The post holder will receive regular supportive supervision and there is a strong psychology network across older adult services and the service line. The service provides training placements and teaching for the local DClinPsy courses.

Qualifications

Essential

• Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
• HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
• Trained in clinical supervision (within agreed timescale)
• Trained in care co-ordination (within agreed timescale)
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

• Registration with BPS
• Post-graduate qualification showing evidence of supervised practice in an evidence-based psychological therapeutic model

Experience

• o Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.
• Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care coordinator within the context of a multidisciplinary team.
