The post holder will be responsible for delivering resuscitation training for both Adult and Paediatric patients. From basic to advanced life support courses, this is Trustwide to both clinical and non-clinical employees.

The Resuscitation Officers work in collaboration with other educators within the trust to deliver essential training such as the Acute Illness Management Courses and bespoke training for wards and departments as and when required.

The post holder will participate in the daily running of the Resuscitation Service including the NCAA and equipment audits, improvement projects, Board level reports and providing expert advice on resuscitation to the trust. On occasions you may be required to deputise for the Senior Resuscitation Officer.

The Resuscitation Officers role includes playing an active role as a member of the Cardiac Arrest Team for adult, paediatric and maternal patients.

You must have a current registration and have clinical experience within an acute setting in order to demonstrate credibility in the role.

37 hours 30 minutes/week working between 08:30-16:00 Monday-Friday (with some later finishes depending on the courses on that day)

Main duties of the job

The Resuscitation Team is an enthusiastic team of registered and non-registered staff who facilitate training from basic to advanced life support. As part of the team you will provide support and education in the management of acutely unwell patients. You will also be expected to take an active part in training and developing staff by delivering classroom-based training in mandatory BLS, anaphylaxis management, ILS, PILS and advanced RCUK courses.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated team member with excellent communication skills. Enthusiastic and dynamic individual with resuscitation experience, who can motivate, demonstrate and influence proficiency in the field of both Paediatric and Adult Resuscitation. The post requires a positive approach to change and the ability to engage, support and motivate others to give high quality care. Opportunities to develop and teach on the advanced courses will be encouraged and supported depending on experience.

Due to a recent promotion within the team we are now able to recruit into a permanent Band 6 role, however if the right candidate applies and does not meet all of the criteria there will be the opportunity to start as a training post under Annex 21, 1 Year 75% Top of Band 6 and work towards progressing to the Band 6 level.

The Band 6 position will be available for those who already have an instructor qualification for ILS/PILS/ALS/EPALS/APLS, however for the Band 6 (Annex 21) pathway the successful applicant will be required to complete ILS, PILS, and ILSi courses within 3 months of starting, candidates must also be prepared to work towards gaining their ALS and EPASL/APLS qualifications within a 12 month period.

  • As a member of the Education and Workforce Development team provide high quality, responsive education and development activity which support achievement of organisational objectives and the Trust agenda.
  • To provide resuscitation training and education within the guidelines of the Trust, the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation.
  • To provide resuscitation training which reflects current evidence and policy based practice under the direction of the Senior Resuscitation Officer.
  • To provide clinical and technical support and advice as an active member of the cardiac arrest team.
  • Will lead on specified, agreed training programmes.
  • Will be responsible for maintaining accurate resuscitation training records.
  • Contribute to the development of specialised programmes relating to resuscitation and the deteriorating patient.
  • Play an active role in the multidisciplinary team of trust wide staff and stakeholders involved in resuscitation and the deteriorating patient.
  • To identify and participate in trials and evaluations of resuscitation and other related equipment.
  • Provide basic life support training (adult and paediatric) to all levels and disciplines of staff across the Trust.
  • Will provide intermediate and advanced life support training to appropriate groups of staff.
  • The post holder will assist in maintaining resuscitation equipment requirements by ordering supplies through standard ordering procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • Qualified Registered Nurse/ODP
  • Valid NMC/HCPC registration or equivalent
  • Qualified to diploma or degree level in a related subject or equivalent specialist study/experience
  • Trained and qualified to Certificate of Education, or comparable award
  • Has successfully completed a Resuscitation Course ALS (Advanced Life Support) / one of the advanced paediatric life support courses (APLS / EPLS)
  • Will be expected to undertake and maintain provider status in one of the above courses and work towards instructor status


Desirable

  • Degree level education


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in acute care setting in order to have clinical credibility
  • High standard of general education, excellent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Previous experience in a training role including designing, delivering and evaluating programmes/workshops for multi-disciplinary teams and diverse staff groups at a range of levels including senior staff groups
  • Competent in the application of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge and understanding of anti-discriminatory practice


Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within the NHS, or similar large, complex organisation
  • Understanding of training needs analysis processes and training planning at departmental and organisational level
  • Managerial / training experience
