Chestnut Ward is a 27 bedded elderly acute medical ward. We have patients with often complex needs including Dementia, and Parkinson's disease.
We adhere to John's Campaign: for the right of people with dementia to be supported by their family and carers. Part of our role is to provide excellent end of life care. This aims to provide comfort in the last days of life, which involves managing physical symptoms and giving emotional support.
We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated and enthusiastic individual with the ability to enable and empower their team. Strong leadership and performance management is an integral aspect of this role, with patient safety and patient experience underpinning all aspects of the unit running efficiently and effectively.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supporting the Band 7 to provide management support for Chestnut, which entails managing the Nursing team. This includes, but not limited to:
Overall, the focus of this role is to ensure theunit is safe and functional at all times.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supporting the Band 7 to provide management support for Chestnut, which entails managing the Nursing team. This includes, but not limited to:
- Allocation of staff to teams, and ensuring they are working within their level of competence, supporting qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward.
- Working alongside Doctors, to ensure patients receive appropriate care.
- Liaising with the operational team, to ensure timely transfer of patients out of the ward to appropriate ward areas
- Taking charge in challenging circumstances within the ward, and ensuring that support is given to junior colleagues at all times
- Assisting the Band 7 to ensure appraisals, mandatory training and competency assessments for all nursing staff are kept up to date.
- To play a key role in the assessment of patients care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
