The Great North Children's Hospital based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary is one of only 14 major Children's Medical Centers in the United Kingdom. It has 245 beds and is the home of specialities that include Paediatric Intensive Care, Gastroenterology, Renal Medicine, Respiratory, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Surgery, Immunology, Neurology, Oncology and Infectious Diseases. We are also one of only two specialist units in the UK who treat children with immunodeficiency disease. We have clinical pharmacy input into many areas assist and lead on guideline writing and join in consultant led ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings and working closely alongside Specialist Nurses to facilitate homecare prescriptions.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacist to join the Paediatric Pharmacy Team for a fixed term period until 25 July 2025. The post holder will work across all areas of the Great North Children's Hospital and possibly rotate across to the Children's Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital. Full training will be provided, and the post holder will work alongside the Senior Lead Pharmacists. We provide a well-established pharmacy-led service in the provision of paediatric total parenteral nutrition (TPN) to children on the wards and the post holder will be trained up to order paediatric TPN. The post holder will work closely with other areas of Pharmacy including Pharmacy Production Unit, Medicines Management and the Homecare Team.The post holder will also input into the care of women under the care of our Obstetrics and Gynaecology teams at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.We require a motivated and enthusiastic team-player to join our team. Previous experience in women's and children's services is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided, and the post holder will be supported by experienced and Senior Paediatric Pharmacists.
