We are looking for a dynamic and client centred Occupational Therapist to join our Psychiatric intensive care team in Lewisham!

You will be based on the intensive care ward and will join an experienced and supportive team of Occupational Therapists working at the Ladywell unit.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, creative, forward thinking and hard-working occupational therapist with solid mental health experience. They will be able to carry out occupationally focused assessments and interventions and will be integrated into the MDT to promote a collaborative approach to the use of therapeutic activity.

The post holder will oversee and provide occupational therapy assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation to people accessing the male Intensive care mental health ward based in Lewisham to promote Safety, Recovery and person centred practice

Job responsibilities

main responsibilities include
  • To coordinate and deliver therapeutic interventions in the ward in collaboration with service users and multi disciplinary team
  • To be an integrated team member within the ward team, and Ladywell OT team to address occupational and recovery goals for patients, and to facilitate effective
  • Providing leadership and supervision to a band 3 Activity coordinator and band 5 OT and designated staff and volunteers.
  • maintaining a clear occupational focus to ones work for the benefit of the service user and with the support from peers and clinical leads.
  • Being active in discharge planning, interventions and recommendations and working closely with discharge coordinators, families and care coordinators to ensure transition into community is done in the most effective and person centred way.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Occupational Therapist


Desirable

  • Post-graduate training relevant to Mental Health


Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience as an OT at Band 5 level in mental health or Learning disabilities
  • Experience of responding effectively and safely to risk and behaviour which challenges within Mental Health settings


Desirable

  • Experience of working in an inner-city, multi-cultural environment
  • Advising and supporting /supervising junior staff and students
  • Working in an acute Multi disciplinary team


Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Applied knowledge of legislation relevant to Mental Health and Specialist practice where appropriate
  • High level understanding of Mental Health disorders and treatment models
  • Understanding of the importance and supporting service user involvement
  • Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues


Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions and outcome measures, relevant to client group
