We are looking for a talented, passionate, and experienced nurse leader who can demonstrate strong clinical and strategic leadership, with the ability to communicate effectively across multi-professional boundaries as well as create an enviable culture of caring and compassion.
The Head of Nursing needs to be able to articulate a clear vision / plan for nursing and allied healthcare professionals and be committed to continually improving patient services by providing an environment that sustains quality and performance, which will enable the Division of Medicine and Emergency Care to meet its demanding goals and strategic objectives.
Having the ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures, ways of working, boundaries, and organisations to produce more effective and innovative service delivery and partnerships is a key skill, essential to the role.
Providing leadership and experience to manage and deliver on the complex and changing workload, which will include the need to identify and resolve conflicting priorities within tight timescales will be expected.
The post holder must have a comprehensive understanding of the changing NHS environment and the challenges it faces, and the role and contribution nurses can make.

Main duties of the job
In conjunction with the Divisional Director and Associate Medical Director/s, lead the implementation and delivery of the Clinical Services Strategy across the Division.
Integrate the Nursing & Midwifery Strategy with the Divisional Clinical Services Strategy.
Ensure the nursing agenda is delivered by providing leadership and acting on behalf of the Divisional Director and Associate Medical Director.
Provide line management to Matrons and Senior Nurses.
Ensure nursing quality reaches agreed standards.
Establish systems to ensure sufficient nurses are available to deliver high quality care.
Ensure nursing resource is used effectively, contributing to continuous improvement and increased productivity.
Provide expert advice to the Division on all nursing matters.
Deliver agreed corporate schemes.

Job responsibilities
To be a key member of the Divisional senior leadership triumvirate and make critical decisions regarding operational, clinical, and strategic issues.
In association with the Associate Medical Director/s, be responsible for embedding systems and processes to deliver high standards of safe, quality and effective care, based on evidence-based practice.
Responsible and accountable for ensuring that the Division has a robust workforce plan for the nursing and allied healthcare professional workforce to ensure the demands of the service are met, enabling safe, effective care for patients.
Implement a robust system across the Division to evidence and monitor the Nursing / AHP contribution to national and local standards of care, e.g., C4C, NICE Guidance, NICE Quality Standards, CQUIN, GIRFT.
Lead the implementation of local and national initiatives in close collaboration with Clinical Leads, Service Managers, matrons, Ward / Departmental Managers to ensure patients needs are being adequately met.
Responsible for overseeing the financial position of all Ward / clinical departments expenditure across the Division and to monitor the use of Bank / Agency staffing against vacancies, sickness & maternity leave.
Responsible for ensuring that Succession Plans and Talent Management discussions are developed and implemented across the Nursing/AHP workforce.
To act as an expert resource and provide advice on all aspects of Nursing / AHP care in relation to clinical interventions, policies, service development and delivery.
Lead, develop and promote a positive culture within the Division to enable continuous quality and service improvement.
Ensure a healthy, safe and secure working environment, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation and reporting any concerns.
Take action when professional standards fall short of those acceptable.
Participate in the Trusts Senior Manager On-Call rota.
In conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer, develop the Trusts Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and plan, lead, and implement within the Division.
Undertake lead roles on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer and take the lead for designated corporate projects or programmes of work.
