  • To provide Clinical Nurse Management, Clinical Leadership and expertise in all aspects of service delivery within sphere of responsibility
  • To continue to provide leadership and guidance in working towards an amalgamated service both in the short and long term.
  • With support from the Matron, will ensure that high standards are developed, implemented, evaluated and maintained, with required change planned in accordance with the framework of Clinical Governance.
  • To lead by example, acting as a role model to all members of the nursing team, leading care teams and creating a positive learning environment. To deploy and supervise all nursing staff effectively.
  • Acts as an expert resource on Nursing care of patients within the specialities and holds a key role in the multidisciplinary team
  • It is to maintain an environment in which members of the ward/department team can contribute to the maximum of their ability in providing a high standard of care, staff welfare and staff training.
  • Designated to take charge of the ward.
  • Responsible for the assessment of care needs, and for the development and implementation of programmes of care without supervision.
  • Manage an allocated budget and resources in an efficient and cost effective manner.


Main duties of the job

The practitioner should be an expert in the assessment, planning, and implementation of all areas of nursing care from patients admission to transfer/discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. They will proactively manage the unit with support from the Band 6 Deputy Ward managers. Ensuring the efficient and effective running of the ward / unit / service. They will lead the management of staff appraisals, staff rotas, the recruitment and selection process and the supervision of learners. They will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership by being a role model to nursing and support staff in the delivery of evidence based patient centred care, which is of a high standard. They are responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources. They will work were possible on a supernumerary basis.

The post holder will deputise in the absence of the Matron and operationalize all aspects of the Matrons role with regards to high clinical standards, patient safety, cleanliness, infection control & hygiene code and fundamentals of care.
