We are excited to share an opportunity for a suitably experienced GP, preferably with an academic background, to work with the Primary, Community and Intermediate Care (PCIC) Clinical Board and the Health Board Research and Development Director, as PCIC Clinical Board Research and Development Lead.

The Clinical Board R& D Lead will work closely with the Clinical Board Director (or delegate) and R& D Director to raise the profile of R& D within the UHB, implement the UHB's R& D strategy and realise the ambition of being internationally recognised as a centre of research excellence.

Strong Research and Development (R& D) leadership at a Clinical Board level is necessary for the Health Board to achieve the aims of NHS Wales to make R& D a core activity and for the NHS to play its full part in supporting health research. The PCIC Clinical Board R& D Lead will work closely with the Clinical Board Director and Senior Management Team and the R& D Director to raise the profile of R& D within the UHB, implement the UHB's R& D strategy and realise the ambition of being internationally recognised as a centre of research excellence.

The role offers the successful candidate to strategically lead on research opportunities and Service Evaluation development for evolving PCIC Services such as within Accelerated Cluster Development.

Main duties of the job

  • To oversee the drawing up and execution of the Clinical Board's R& D Implementation Plan, underpinning the UHB R& D Strategy
  • To ensure that PCIC Clinical Board includes R& D activity in the job plans of relevant clinical and non-clinical staff
  • To ensure dissemination of and action on R& D information within the PCIC Clinical Board
  • To collate information regarding PCIC Clinical Board R& D activity, outputs and impacts
  • To attend the Clinical Board and R& D Leads meeting with the Director of R& D
  • To attend the PCIC Quality and Safety meeting and provide an update on R& D activity across PCIC
  • To provide assistance and advice to the Business Unit R& D Leads in their review of trials, ensuring the following aspects have been considered:
    • the trial is of benefit to patients and the UHB
    • complies with the UHB R& D Strategy and Clinical Board R& D Implementation Plan
    • is adequately costed and
    • adequate internal resources are available to successfully deliver the trial. The Clinical Board may consider sharing of resources across Business Units within the Clinical Board and between Clinical Boards to ensure successful delivery of trials to time and target.
  • Ensure that in circumstances where a Business Unit R& D Lead is unable/fails to comply with project reviewer responsibilities, that an alternative suitable reviewer within the Board is found.
