We are seeking an experienced, skilled, and compassionate operational leader for the role. The successful candidate will through a combination of their experience, skills and knowledge of the performance challenges and standards for acute hospitals enable us to deliver safe, effective and responsive services.
You will have a proven track record in supporting healthcare teams to deliver high quality, cost-effective services, working in a large, complex organisation, ideally with experience of having worked at a senior level in acute services. We are interested, not just in your technical skills, but also your ability to be a visible, optimistic, and compassionate leader.
The role is a pivotal, ensuring that services consistently provide high quality patient care whilst delivering all performance targets within the financial envelope. You will also be responsible for working with operational and clinical leaders to ensure our services are developed to meet the needs of tomorrow's patients.

Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations the post holder will work closely with the Associate Medical Director and Divisional Nurse Director in providing strategic direction and drive operational performance and planning with the Division., with a firm focus on quality and patients.
The DDoO will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of the day-to-day operational performance of the Division ensuring sustainable delivery of high quality patient care, safety processes, operational standards and quality / service improvement programmes. The post holder will work closely with the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Divisional Directors of Operations in monitoring performance against objectives and in ensuring high standards of corporate governance are adhered to.
The DDoO is a critical role ensuring high standards of leadership and consistent, optimal performance across the breadth of our activities. This is an excellent opportunity for an operational leader with experience of working near Board level in an Acute Trust, to play a key role in leading or largest clinical division, improving performance, and shaping services across our health economy.

OPERATIONAL DUTIES
The DDoO is a key leadership role in ensuring the division operations function is responsible for the effective day to day running of all Trust services both clinical and non-clinical.
- To take autonomous decisions in areas which affect the operational working of the Trust and in their improvement.
- Delivery of all national and local performance standards through the establishment of divisional performance objectives and appropriate infrastructure to support the level of performance required and ensure regulatory requirements are achieved.
- To work closely with Associate Nursing Director / Deputy Director, Associate Medical Director and Clinical Directors to ensure governance arrangements are robust and clinical care is optimised with particular emphasis on learning from Serious Untoward Incidents (SUIs) and near misses as well as implementing best clinical practice and safe services.
- To be a proactive member of the Divisions Senior Management Team working closely with Executive colleagues in the development and delivery of high-quality clinical care.
- To work with the Board of Directors on quality improvement proactively reviewing processes and clinical systems to increase standardisation and eliminate waste and risk.
- To develop the Division financial strategy and instil a culture of financial and budgetary discipline as a basis for solid investment for the future.
- To be a member of key strategic and operational senior management and clinical management corporate committees, including Clinical Effectiveness, Service & Strategy, Patient Experience and Staff Development, and Assurance Risk.
- To ensure all national and local access standards, relevant to the Division are achieved and to support colleagues in other Divisions with standards relevant to their specialties.
- To act as a role model, holding the Division to account for the efficient, timely delivery of the strategic and operational objectives of the Division.
- To work with relevant Executives in agreeing business plans, annual income plans, cost improvement plans and maintaining the risk register and asset register.
- The establishment of divisional performance objectives and appropriate infrastructure to support the level of performance required and ensure regulatory requirements are achieved. Timely and clinically appropriate patient flow to achieve national and local health care standards, promoting safe, personal, and effective care.
- The identification and resolution of daily patient flow issues to ensure the smooth movement of patients through the hospital and the organisations community services.
- Work with external agencies, such as the Ambulance Trust, CCGs, other Acute Trusts, and Community providers to ensure the Trust response to emergency planning is robust and where possible, consensus across organisations is reached on how to respond to incidents.
- Ensure business continuity plans for the organisation are robust, monitored and escalated as appropriate and take account of the specific needs of high-risk clinical environments and equipment in the Trust.
