Rheumatology/Biologics Staff Nurse
The Biologics Day Unit is looking for an enthusiastic Staff Nurse with experience to join our team. The successful candidate must be proactive and willing to learn as the job encompasses a plethora of different skills from the administration of cytotoxic drugs to running venesection lists. The role is part time, and the candidate will need to be flexible and able to work over a 7 day period.
The Biologics Day Unit is a fast-paced infusion suite where we treat patients from a range of specialties: rheumatology, gastroenterology, neurology, immunology and more.
Our patients are often regular attenders and our team pride themselves on the excellent rapport they build with our patients over the years, many who suffer with debilitating long-term conditions.
The successful candidate must be approachable and friendly and able to communicate clearly with patients as some of the procedures require one to one care.
We are ideally looking for a very experience nurses who have a proven record of cannulation and venepuncture as we expect the successful candidate to develop skills to venesect patients.

Main duties of the job
Patient Care
- Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing
- To co-ordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with the RUH Discharge Policy
- To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals
Professional Development and Education Responsibilities
- To develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/student education programmes
- To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff
Research and Development Responsibilities
- To assist in promoting nursing practice in line with relevant research
- To maintain an awareness of evidence-based practice
- To contribute to research and development programmes within the ward/department.
Audit, Quality and Risk Management Responsibilities
- To contribute to monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards
- To maintain awareness of the national, professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services, e.g. Clinical Governance
Resource Management Responsibilities
- To develop and maintain an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering equipment
- To assist in the assessment and monitoring of staffing requirements and report problems to the appropriate manager

- Registered Nurse part 1, 2,12 State Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council
Desirable
- Post Qualifying experience of over 1 year in acute setting
- Up to date IV workbook competencies
- Cannulation competencies
- Experience working with handling cytotoxic medicines
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice at the level of a newly qualified nurse.
- Understanding of equality and diversity. Demonstrate how to apply it to own practice.
