The Urology department at the West Suffolk Hospital is seeking a motivated and passionate Clinical Nurse Specialist to work as a member of our Urology Cancer nurse specialist team, but also to work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team.

The post holderwill be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and experience in the specialist area of Urology cancer care working with a high degree of independence and autonomy, providing care and treatment to patients utilising advanced clinical judgment and decision making.

As the successful applicant you will be required to take an active role in the delivery of the cancer waiting time targets and support the best possible experience for our patients. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and with regional cancer networks.

To be successful in the role you will need to have experience of the working with Urology patients undergoing cancer treatment within NHS and enjoy the challenge of being part of a hardworking highly productive team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the opportunity to promote and represent the West Suffolk Hospital urology cancer service both within the Trust and externally to the organisation , representing the speciality at a regional and national level.

Working alongside the multi-disciplinary team you will be able to demonstrate an expert clinical knowledge in the area of Urology to support both the patients undergoing cancer treatment and their families.

In having your own patient caseload, you will be able to provide experienced specialised care within urology and also to share this knowledge and experience with other members of the team.

As a part of the Senior Urology nursing team, you will work in conjunction with the nursing lead and the operational management team to support the financial and strategic development of the urology department.

As part of the senior nursing team you will be able develop pathways and guidelines to provide the best possible patient care and meet national standards.

There will be opportunity to undertake literature reviews, audit and research in order to establish an implement best practice.

STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete on call duties within their role.

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree
  • Post registration module in Specialist field of work
  • Teaching & mentoring qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional continuous development and portfolio of learning
  • Leadership or management module


Desirable

  • Non-medical prescriber
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills
  • Advanced communication skills or counselling qualification


Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience as nurse specialist in Urology
  • Recognised as an expert in the field of practice with the ability to clinically assess
  • Understanding of evidence based practice
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Understanding of complex patient pathways and how to support patients through their complexities
  • Understanding and experience in the area of acute oncology


Desirable

  • Practical experience of at band 6/7
  • Audit or research experience
