York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a strong portfolio of research on its two main sites, and is working hard to build on this to grow and enhance this portfolio further.

As such, we are seeing an increased number of grant applications being considered, explored, and submitted. To help meet this demand, we now require a post to join our team to support our experienced Research Grant Development officer, to maximise on our external funding opportunities.

This is a unique post, so we anticipate we may need to develop the successful candidate into this role. We welcome applications without direct experience but have the right skill set to take on this post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Research Grant Development Officer on all aspects of research support service, in terms of developing research grant proposals to a variety of non-commercial external funders, and forging collaborations with researchers in a variety of local and national institutions, to put together a strong team to deliver the proposed research.

The post holder will also support the R& D teams Patient and Public Involvement activities and research communication activities, to raise the profile of our research.

The successful applicant will also lead on research engagement strategies including, networking events and supporting the Babi Study (babi-study (yorkhospitals.nhs.uk) and will take lead responsibility for the teams website (www.research.yorkhospitals.nhs.uk), intranet, social media activity and the production of printed publicity such as newsletters, leaflets, and posters.

This is a varied R& D role and will require flexibility in working with the many different groups this post encounters, internally in the Trust and externally across the region and nationally.

The role is fixed term, 2 years, and a secondment would be considered for current employees.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to masters degree level or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent professional experience of working in clinical research.


Desirable

  • Project Management qualifications ECDL qualification or equivalent clinical research qualification.


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • An understanding of Research methodology
  • Experience of Research Governance and Ethics procedures.
  • Familiarity with the main research funding schemes
  • Previous experience of working within communications and engagement


Desirable

  • Working knowledge of AcoRD costing guidelines.
  • Experience of successfully managing research projects.


Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Advanced organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of development with various deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to facilitate collaborative working relationships with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including giving presentations and training courses.
  • Ability to understand analyse and interpret complex project data and research governance information


Desirable

  • Ability to contribute to a team approach.
  • Ability to problem solve/make decisions.
