The Main Outpatients Department at Harrogate and District Foundation Trust is a friendly and rewarding place to work. We are a highly motivated team with strong team ethics. Our scope of practice is diverse and complex which includes caring for patients of all age groups under various specialities including ENT, vascular, urology, gynaecology, general surgery and breast.

Main duties of the job

The outpatients department treats non-emergency patients requiring routine medical care without the need for an overnight stay. Some of the main duties include providing health education to patients and families, taking patient samples and assisting in minor procedures such as cystoscopies and biopsies.

The Outpatients Department is also home to the Clinical Investigation Area, where patients attend for urology related clinics such as nurse-led trial without catheter, urodynamic studies and the catheter change clinic.

Further duties of the role include
  • Preparing and organising notes for upcoming clinics.
  • Welcoming patients and completing infection prevention screen.
  • Obtaining observations such as weight, blood glucose level, vital signs.
  • Chaperoning clinicians.
  • Breaking bad news-providing support to patients and families.
  • Opportunities to learn new skills such as nurse-led micro suctioning, assisting clinicians with flexible cystoscopies and dressings.
  • Promoting health education.
