We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Engineer in the Medical Device Service at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. You will join a team of engineers who specialise in the management of medical devices and equipment at Royal Oldham Hospital. This is a Trust wide post which will require the post holder to occasionally work on other sites across the NCA.

You will be working with a multi-professional Medical Devices Team who deliver engineering, governance and training services across a number of Care Organisations and community teams. This Team welcomes innovative approaches and aims to provide clear development pathways andopportunities for staff at every level.

Applicants will be expected to have a minimum qualification of HNC in electronics or a clinical engineering higher diploma with a proven track record of maintaining a range of medical equipment used in hospital, with a willingness to gain new skills in a very diverse range of clinical engineering specialities.

**Please note that, for this post, you will be required to have obtained a full UK Driving Licence**

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist advise to users in the clinical use and application of Electromechanical medical devices.

Supervise and train more junior staff assigned to this group.

Support R& D and innovation work of the department.

Carrying out routine maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment.

Investigating and repairing medical equipment reported as faulty.

Updating evidence of work done on an equipment database.

Assisting with the commissioning of new medical equipment. This includes testing and configuring of new medical equipment before it is released for clinical use.

Supporting users of medical equipment to make the best use of these assets. This will include providing specialist advice to users in their clinical use and application.

Assisting in the management of risk associated with medical devices this will include involvement in training, investigations, testing and repair of medical equipment and acting as the interface between users and other outside agencies / suppliers.

Working in a team supporting each other in order to achieve the common goal of providing a high-quality service that is agile and flexible and best serves the need of our service users.

Working with external suppliers of medical equipment.

Working within the organisations policies and local procedures.

Regularly updating your Knowledge / Skills.

Person Specification

Essential qualifications

Essential

  • HNC (level 4/5 BTEC) minimum in electronics


Desirable

  • Clinical engineering level 3 or above


Professional registration

Essential

  • Register for clinical technologists (RCT)


Knowledge, training and experience

Essential

  • oSubstantial experience in a field of medical equipment maintenance and repair.
  • oSpecialist knowledge in the application and use of a wide range of medical equipment.
  • oKnowledge and experience of current legislation recommendation for the management of medical equipment.
  • oWide range of supplier approved training on the servicing and repair of Electro biomedical equipment.


Desirable

  • oExperience of working in an ISO9001 engineering environment
  • oExperience of management of sub-contractors


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • oFull UK driving licence.
