An exciting opportunity to join an established Oncology/Haematology Research Nurse team looking after children and young people within the Oncology/Haematology department who are participating in clinical trials. You will work alongside experienced specialist nurses coordinating the care of patients on early phase studies and also have responsibility for coordinating biological studies within the department. You will be part of a wide multi-disciplinary team but also work autonomously within the Research nurse team.

Main duties of the job

Work alongside the Research Sisters and assist in the co-ordination of Phase I / Phase II clinical trials. In conjunction with the Research Sisters they will provide specialist advice to patients, families and staff on a child's care during a Phase I or Phase II trial.

Provide advice for nursing staff on research aspects of phase III clinical trials and facilitate psychosocial focused add-on studies within phase III trials.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for data derived from research studies in both written and electronic format where necessary.

Maintain high standards of research governance.

Co-ordinate biological studies work within the Trust and co-ordinate pharmacokinetic studies within the Haematology Oncology Department.

Participate in the line management of Junior Staff within department.

Provide education and training on issues relating to clinical trials for the MDT independently and in conjunction with other Research team staff.

Qualifications

Essential

• RSCN/RN ( child) with experience within a Haematology/ Oncology setting
• Paediatric Oncology Course or equivalent
• NMC Current registration

Knowledge and Nature of Experience

Essential

• At least 2 years Paediatric Haematology / Oncology experience at Band 5
• Extended roles within scope of professional practice relevant to the clinical area, e.g. central venous access devices, intravenous therapy, chemotherapy and blood products
• Meticulous record keeping skills
• GCP awareness

Desirable

• Venipuncture competent or Willingness to develop
