Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Blood Transfusion department and maintenance an efficient, high-quality service in line with UKAS/MHRA requirements working along side the Haematology Lead BMS to provide 24/7, 365 service.
Be responsible for the quality management system and compliance within the transfusion service. Working closely with the pathology quality manager to achieve compliance and accreditation.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will ensure adequate supervision of and participate in the analysis of blood samples within the department. Ensure the ready supply and distribution of blood products is available to users as required and in line with requirements.
The post holder will deputise for and support the Blood Sciences Manager in ensuring that all duties are in observance within the professional code of practice of a HCPC registered BMS.
Will undertake the role of quality and training lead for the transfusion department. Will have a clear understanding of legal transfusion requirements and local/national transfusion requirements, enabling the Trust to meet service demands and strategic targets.
You will be required to ensure the effective and efficient deployment of resources within the department, including staff, reagents and consumables, and to monitor the daily work activity, participating in the technical work as and when required so to do.

Qualifications
Essential
- HCPC registered
- FIBMS or MSc in Biomedical Sciences
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in with Haematology and or Transfusion
Desirable
- Formal management training (long or short courses) or equivalent experience
Experiance/Knowledge
Essential
- Evidence of laboratory experience at Band 7 or higher in specialist area (BT/HAEM)
- Have evidence of running/managing a team of staff or a service of similar or larger size.
- Experience of driving service improvements
- Teaching /training experience of low staff grades
- Evidence of good organisational skills for both self and team
Skills
Essential
- Knowledge of laboratory related H& S
- Able to provide the scientific lead for discipline
- Able to prioritise workload
- Able to deal with complaints/staff discipline
Desirable
- Responsibility for Quality management and health and safety
- Experience in financial planning for laboratory equipment
