Neurosciences Advanced Therapy Research Nurse Manager
THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 2 YEARS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.
The Welsh Government Advanced Therapies Statement of Intent (2019) provides a compelling vision for a strategic approach to harness the benefits from emerging and transformative therapies called Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATIMPs). The intention is to create a sustainable platform to enable NHS Wales to provide patients with equitable access to emerging ATMPs, explore how this sector can contribute to the objectives of the Welsh Government's A Healthier Wales: Our Plan for Health and Social Care in Wales and deliver our full potential in the international and UK development of ATMPs.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (C& V UHB) and its Chief Executive Officer, as the Senior Responsible Officer for the Advanced Therapy Wales Programme, is committed to this Health Board making a major contribution to the successful delivery of this vision through the implementation of commissioned personalized cellular therapies (e.g. CAR-T) and through delivery of high quality ATMP trials across multiple disease areas.
Main duties of the job
A lead for neurosciences advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP) trials is being sought in order to ensure appropriate research pathways are developed within University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff, thereby resulting in more ATMPs for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases being offered to the patients of Wales and beyond.
The Neurosciences Directorate at UHW has already successfully delivered a gene therapy clinical trial in Huntington's disease and it looking to rapidly expand its neuro advanced therapies portfolio with support from Advanced Therapies Wales (ATW) and Midland Wales Advanced Therapies Treatment Centres (MW-ATTC).
Ideally the candidate should be an experienced nurse with a background in surgery and research with a knowledge of advanced therapies, although for the right candidate thorough advanced therapies training will be provided through UK advanced therapies network.
An informal visit in person or via Teams is highly recommended.

JOB PURPOSE
- Provide leadership and management of the neurosciences ATMP clinical research team at C& V UHB. The post holder will have complete oversight of all aspects of clinical research activity within the designated Neurosciences ATMP team(s), this includes:
- Responsibility for delivering the UHB Neurosciences ATMP objectives.
- Optimising service provision for Neurosciences ATMP trials.
- Trial workforce planning and financial management of Neurosciences ATMP trials.
- Timely delivery of Neurosciences ATMP trials.
- Monitoring of quality standards and escalation of identified risks /sharing of best practice
- Work across UHB directorates and clinical boards and with external collaborators/organisations to ensure appropriate patient pathways for involvement in Neurosciences ATMP trials. This will include:
- Building relationships with all stakeholders and service departments to ensure appropriate engagement.
- Acting as a subject matter expert in relation to ATMP trials.
- Contributing to appropriate work packages in relation to patient pathway development.

- RGN level 1 or healthcare equivalent
- M.Sc. (or equivalent level of knowledge and experience) Evidence of management/ leadership

- Substantial neurology/ neurosurgery clinical experience
