An opportunity has arisen for an Operational Department Practitioner in our Electro-convulsive Treatment Service based at the Maudsley Hospital.The Post holder will play an important role in supporting the Team of Consultant Psychiatrists, Consultant Anaesthetist, Nurse Manager and 3 other ODPs in delivering patient care to service users during their treatment.You will be registered with the Health and care professions council (HCPC) to practise as an ODP and hold an ODP Post-registration mentorship qualification.
Main duties of the job
The role of the ODP is varied and dynamic. You will be working in collaboration with Consultant Psychiatrists, anaesthetists, nurses and the wider multi professional healthcare team to ensure patient comfort and safety.You will support the anaesthetist in preparing specialist equipment and communicating effectively to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient care. You will ensure patient wellbeing by providing emotional support, monitoring vital signs and responding to the patient's changing needs.
You will be required to provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both patients and their relatives/carers whilst at the clinic.
As a Deputy to the Nurse Clinical Coordinator you will have managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the clinical coordinator.
You will be required to act as a positive role model to other staff members of the Team.

To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patients condition, instigate appropriate remedial action and promptly report changes.
To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives.
To ensure that accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the patients condition and the treatment delivered.
To ensure that clinical guidelines are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice in conjunction with line manager and practice development staff.
