An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position to lead & further develop the Tissue Viability Service at University Hospitals Birmingham. This is a Trust wide role, working across Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope & Solihull hospital sites. The postholder will also be required to work closely with our community tissue viability service lead nurse to ensure seamless care.

The Tissue Viability service provides specialist advice via the single point of access, proactive & reactive support for surveillance of wounds, prevention & control of tissue damage. Training and education is a key component to the Tissue Viability improvement strategy & the post holder will lead the design & implementation of a bespoke programme for all relevant disciplines of staff across the Trust. Through the Tissue Viability team the post holder will design & implement audit programmes to understand performance and compliance and use the results to depict workstreams of quality improvement. The aim of the service to reduce the risk of patient harm and promote optimal wound management & healing & so directly contributes to the quality of patient care & service delivery in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The job purpose is to lead the operational service, improvement projects & governance functions in Tissue Viability. The post holder will establish & maintain effective relationships with senior nursing staff, medical staff, managers, professionals allied to health & other multi-professional trust members to successfully deliver the Tissue Viability agenda. This will include networking outside the Trust with peers from other organisations and networks. The post holder will undertake the leadership & managerial responsibility for the Tissue Viability team, managing all resources for the specific service including staff & budgets. The role will entail maintaining a clinical focus to lead & strengthen the Tissue Viability contribution to patients & service users across the Trust. A key priority for the post holder will be to develop & ensure practice compliance across the Trust is in accordance with National Standards & policies through local policies, protocols, guidelines & audit, & then improvement using established quality initiatives. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • * Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • * Professional knowledge acquired through post graduate degree /supplemented by specialist training ,experience, short courses to Masters level equivalent
  • * Non-Medical Prescribing Course or willingness to undertake where this is a requirement of the role


Experience

Essential

  • * Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • * Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • * Extensive post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Band 7 or above in defined or associated speciality
  • * Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level
  • * Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
  • * Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/competence.
  • * Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
  • * Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • * Experience in service development
  • * Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
