UHCW NHS Trust is currently recruiting Band 5 Paediatric and Emergency Nurses to work in our Children's Emergency Department (CED).
The Children's Emergency Department (CED) is a very busy department treating 37,000 patients a year and caring for infants, children and young people aged 0-17 years of age from Coventry and Warwickshire.We are currently expanding our footprint within the children's Emergency Department. At the same time increasing our nursing workforce by recruiting additional ACP and ENP's as well as a designated Practice Educator for staff within CED to help enhance and develop skills.
Please note this post is not suitable for applicants who are required to undertake the OSCE training programme. Applicants who do not have current valid UK NMC registration will not be considered for this post.
Main duties of the job
On a daily basis we work with the Paediatric team, the acute medical teams, acute surgery, the orthopaedic team and other specialities. We also work closely withspecialist nurses and the play specialists to enable us to offer holistic care. The Unit also has well established links with KIDS (Kids Intensive Care & Decision Support) based at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
As a Band 5 nurse you will be supported by a strong and experienced Band 6 team and led by a Band 7 CED Unit Manager. There will be opportunities for you to expand and develop skills through our bespoke nurse development and training plans with the support of the specialist nurses and the Paediatric Practice Educators.
We are constantly developing the Unit and always developing our practices. Wetake great pride in developing our Paediatric Nursing skills and this is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate. To be successful you will need to be compassionate with a genuine desire to help people. Due to this being a challenging role you will need to be adaptable, able to deal with challenging situations as well as being able to demonstrate patience and empathy.

Job responsibilities
Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times, including all aspects of child protection.
Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.
A competent practitioner, supervising/providing mentorship to a small number of learners or junior staff.
Responsible for co-ordination and clinical assessment of a group of patients, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated, involving patients and carers.
Participate in observations of care, audit and development of service to improve quality of care.
Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including patient observations equipment management and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.
Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
Manage expected clinical events/enquiries, requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort, ensuring referral to a senior member of staff where appropriate e.g in an unexpected event.
Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
