This is a fixed term contract for 24 months with a view to a permanent position at the end of the term. Full or part-time hours will be considered.

Occupational Therapy are proud and excited to invite applications for this new post of Occupational Therapy Practice Development Lead.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join the team. The successful applicant will be pivotal in the training and development of a range of Occupational therapy staff, including newly qualified graduates, OT support workers, students and apprentices

You must be highly motivated, well-organised, have excellent communication skills, be able to inspire individuals and have a range of senior experience across inpatient services within the NHS in an acute setting.

This post is suitable for applicants who already work at Team Lead level or highly experienced band 6 Occupational Therapists who have a special interest in inpatient care predominantly orthopaedics, general surgery, medical, older persons rehabilitation and therapy outreach as well as front door services.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside the existing inpatient Team Leads and management team to coordinate clinical supervision, probationary, personal, and professional development of a range of inpatient Occupational Therapy staff.

The post requires concise decision-making and ability to liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. The Occupational therapists work in an integrated way with Physiotherapy colleagues and have a mix of qualified and unqualified staff as well as therapy associate practitioners

Although the post is predominantly weekdays, there will be a requirement to work some bank holidays and weekends rotas alongside staff who require clinical support and supervision.

Job responsibilities

To provide dedicated professional and practice development support to a range of Occupational Therapy staff across inpatient services including newly qualified Occupational therapists, apprentices, students, support workers, return to practice and overseas recruits.

Responsible to delivery and development of high clinical standards for Occupational Therapy staff and students

Responsible for the development of Occupational therapy clinical care of patients.

To support Occupational Therapy staff to meet our Trust Values and behaviours within clinical fields.

To support Occupational Therapist staff to achieve their competency framework relevant to their grade and area of work.

To work closely with Occupational Therapy Managers to develop policy, guidelines, frameworks and risk assessments to enhance service provision and clinical standards

To work across 7 days on a rostered pattern

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy by recognised awarding body College of Occupational Therapists.
  • Satisfies the criteria for full Membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Must be a State Registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area


Desirable

  • An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT degree students


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Completion of core rotations
  • Extensive senior experience in an acute NHS Trust or equivalent
  • Evidence to support knowledge base in specialist area
  • Evidence of post registration education and continuous professional development
  • Specialist clinical skills across Inpatient Occupational Therapy
  • Extensive knowledge of Occupational Therapy equipment, experience in teaching other professional, public and patients in its use.
