The role of the lead radiographer in cardiac Cath labs involves managing the daily operations of the labs, supervising staff, performing imaging procedures, collaborating with health professionals, ensuring patient safety and maintaining regulatory compliance. This position requires strong leadership skills, clinical expertise in cardiac imaging, effective communication, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, teamwork, adaptability, technical proficiency, and a commitment to safety.

As a lead radiographer in the cardiac Cath lab, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of dedicated professionals, work in a fast paced environment and utilise your clinical skills to provide high quality patient care. The post holder should have sufficient experience in a senior role. The working hours are 4 days Mon-Fri 8am-6pm.

Main duties of the job

The lead radiographer would show:

Strong leadership skills: The ability to effectively lead and manage a team of radiographers.

Clinical expertise: Proficiency in performing and interpreting cardiac imaging procedures and able to work in emergency situations.

Communication skills: The ability to effectively communicate with patients, healthcare professionals and other staff members.

Problem-solving skills: Capacity to troubleshoot issues that may arise during procedures and make quick decisions to ensure patient safety.

Attention to detail: Thoroughness in maintaining accurate patient records and documentation of procedures.

Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team.

Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Technical proficiency: Familiarity with imaging equipment and software used in CCLs.

Commitment to safety: Dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and staff members

Job description

Job responsibilities

The lead radiographer in cardiac catheter labs is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the lab. This includes coordinating patient schedules, ensuring proper equipment maintenance and functionality, and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

Job responsibilities include:

Supervising and training staff members.

Performing procedures such as coronary angiograms, PCI, PPCI, EP studies and device implantation.

Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members on a daily basis.

Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation of procedures.

Monitoring vital signs during procedures and responding to any complications.

Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards in the lab.

Participating in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in cardiac imaging.

Maintaining equipment stock levels in cardiac Cath lab.

Working in cardiac Cath labs involves working closely with consultants, nurses, and physiologists to provide seamless patient care.

In this post it would also be required of you to deal with company representatives regularly to ensure smooth operations within the lab.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications:

Essential

  • DCR(R) or BSc Radiography. Registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of post graduate study


Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good anatomy knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of adaptive techniques.
  • Aware of current trends relevant to the profession.
  • Aware of current trends relevant to the profession.


Desirable

  • Public sector / NHS knowledge.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of Siemens Cath Lab equipment.


Skills and Ability:

Essential

  • Methodical.

  • Experience of CRIS and PACS.
