We are looking for someone who has excellent leadership skills, effective organisational skills, highly developed communication skills and the ability to interact with people from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. The post holder will be responsible for improving the quality of care received by individuals with a learning disability and autistic people within the acute hospital setting by ensuring both local and national best practice is integrated within the Trust. They will act as a role model and clinical expert within the specialty of learning disability nursing across all areas of the Trust, supporting clinical staff in the management of care planning for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

Main duties of the job

o Reducing health inequalities by supporting the Trust's delivery of the Learning Disability and Autism strategyo Supporting the management of the Learning Disability & Autism Team's clinical caseload, working on complex cases in liaison with the patient, their family/carers and the hospital Multidisciplinary Teamo Developing your own leadership skills by coaching junior Learning Disability Nurses through the BHRUT Learning Disability Nursing Career Mapo Close liaison with the Community Learning Disability Services within the tri-borough catchment areao Leading on the implementation and delivery of the Trust's Transition from Children to Adult Health services strategy relating to learning disability and autismo Clinical supervision from a registered learning disability nurseo Peer supervision from a well-established and experienced Safeguarding Teamo Leadership experience within The Safeguarding Team of an acute hospital trust serving a diverse demographic in North East Londono Working within the Trust's Corporate Nursing Division and exposure to strategic governance meetings with the opportunity to shadow the senior nursing team at strategic meetings

About us

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A& Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings forurgent and emergency careat Queen's and King George hospitals anddata released by NHS Englandshowed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre Radiotherapy Centre Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Learning Disability Nurse or Registered Children's or Adults Nurse.
  • A recognised teaching and assessing qualification.


Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

  • Substantial post-registration experience of working with adults, children and young people with a learning disability and autism at Band 6 or equivalent level.
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital Trust.


Desirable

  • Experience of line managing junior staff.


Skills/ Abilities

Desirable

  • Experience of report writing.
