The candidates will need to be an adaptable and ambitious individual, who will help lead on development and delivery of high standards of nursing care to our elective patients within Cringleford Ward and NaNOC.

Cringleford Ward is a 20 bedded ward for elective orthopaedics, we strive on being people focused, supportive of each other, offering high standards of care to our patients. We will also see the opening of our dedicated Elective Orthopaedic Centre which will include two brand new additional theatres and a 21 bedded in-patient ward. This is an expanding department and it's an exciting time to join.

Main duties of the job

As post holder you would be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high-quality patient care by providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership.

To take charge of the Ward/Department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse and provide support and guidance to all staff on medicines optimisation and prescribing for all inpatients, including completion of electronic drug charts for emergency admissions and writing discharge prescriptions.

Job responsibilities

• Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
• Assist the Ward/ Department manager in maintaining standards of nursing practice.
• Carry out and advise/ supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.
• Carry out daily personal care of patients.
• To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/ Department Sister/ Charge Nurse.
• To ensure the patient administration systems e.g. PAS are updated to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.
• To ensure that all staff adhere to Trust policies and the principles of their professional body.
• To manage complaints in accordance with the Trusts Complaints Procedure.
• To assist in the development of patient information liaising with PALS as necessary.

• Post registration qualification experience relevant to the clinical area.

• Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the speciality.
• Experience of managing and leading a clinical area.
• Experience of participating in clinical audit or patient reviews.
