Medical Examiner service. We are recruiting a Medical Examiner Officer to join the Trust as part of the national implementation of the statutory Medical Examiner system in England and Wales. The aim of this service is to be able to scrutinise all deaths within Buckinghamshire not referred to the Coroner. The purpose of this role is to act, with other MEO colleagues, as the Medical Examiners' day to day operational lead for ensuring that the ME service runs smoothly and effectively.

** This role is for 15 hours per week working on Thursdays & Fridays **

**Please Note: This is an administrative NOT medical role.**

Main duties of the job

You will work with the senior MEO and will support all MEs assisting in a broad range of issues including being proactive in contacting relatives on behalf of the Medical Examiner and working with healthcare professionals, coroner and registration services to ensure that the work of the Medical Examiner's office is completed in a timely, efficient and sensitive manner. You will assist in managing the Medical Examiner's office ensuring internal and external qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators are managed and achieved.

2.EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Educated to Batchelor's degree level or equivalent working knowledge in related field.
  • Willingness to undertake the RCPath MEO training
  • A commitment to continuing education and development in line with the changing environment and requirements of the service
  • Membership of RCPath MEO


3.EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Computer skills. Ability to use word processor spread sheet programme and web browser


Desirable

  • Experience of working in health care setting with multidisciplinary teams
  • Good understanding of the NHS agenda, Primary Care Networks and organisational awareness.
  • General Knowledge of medical terminology


5.SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential

  • Ability to travel to other sites.
  • Flexibility to be part of an out of hours rota (short hours weekends & BH)


Desirable

  • Full Driving Licence and regular access to a car


4.SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Understanding mortality review processes and the principals of clinical governance aspects of death Registration. Patient Safety and experience.
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills. Self awareness. Ability to judge conflicting demands by planning efficiently and prioritising. Ability to take initiative as appropriate.
  • Highly developed communication skills and strong interpersonal skills in demonstrating the ability to communicate in difficult and emotional situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a teams and organise fluctuating workload around competing priorities.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to deputise for senior MEO.
  • Approachable and supportive to all levels of staff and bereaved families in a non-Judgemental and discreet manner.
  • Ability to travel to other sites.
