Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, the Finance Manager forms a critical part of the divisional business partnering team. The role supports a portfolio of directorates, with support from a Band 7 Deputy Finance Manager and a Band 5/6 Management Accountant.
The Finance Manager is the first point of contact for their directorates in delivering business planning, month end reporting/forecasting, supporting the productivity and efficiency agenda, and providing financial advice and options appraisal for proposed investments. It is a key role which works closely with directorate leadership teams, as well as being a senior member of the finance function, providing support and leadership to colleagues both within the financial management team and across the wider function.
The finance team are valued and respected by operational and clinical colleagues within the Division, and the successful candidate will be able to develop strong relationships which lead to working together to understand and manage the financial challenges facing services.
The successful candidate will have experience in financial management, excellent technical skills, and be a clear, confident communicator, both verbally and in writing. As these roles have line management responsibilities, the successful candidate should have experience of managing and developing staff.
This is a varied and complex role that offers the right candidate the opportunity to thrive and develop within a supportive finance team. The finance department fully supports hybrid working as standard, with the opportunity to agree mutually acceptable working patterns embedded in the Trust flexible working policy.

Main duties of the job
- Provide a high-quality, responsive financial management service to a portfolio of directorates
- Support in setting annual budgets in line with Trust guidelines
- Deliver efficient month end and year end processes to deadline
- Work with General Managers to support the production of income and expenditure forecasts based on activity, workforce trends, and understanding of the factors affecting the financial position
- Proactively support identification and delivery of a productivity and efficiency plans
- Provide clear, useful directorate reports and presentations which describe financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and highlight action required
- Support the production of business cases for investment
- Be the lead finance point of contact for the directorates within your portfoli
- Provide cross-cover across the team during absences and deputise for Senior Finance Manager as needed
- Provide budget holder training across a range of financial management activities and finance systems
- Line manage staff including providing regular 1-2-1s, meaningful PDRs, supporting professional development, and ensuring work is carried out to a professional standard and within deadline
- Provide input as required into benchmarking returns, PLICS, and Freedom of Information request
- Seek to continually improve processes across the team and wider financial management function, including leading on improvement project
