Are you already a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse with proven leadership skills looking to develop specialist nursing skills? Or are you a band 5 staff nurse ready to develop in your role as a clinical leader?

We are looking for a proactive nurse who can demonstrate a patient centered approach to clinical practice, a problem solving approach and excellent collaborative, communication skills. The successful candidate would be required to co-ordinate the ward regularly, lead, maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice within the team and deputise for the Ward Sister in her absence.

Candidates will be required to have a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in an acute setting. Previous experience of working in a renal setting is desirable but not essential. We have an in-house Clinical Educator and full training and support will be given to enable the successful candidate to excel in this speciality. Additionally, we can offer a Post Graduate Renal course (depending on funding) and an internal rotation to the haemodialysis team to further develop your specialist clinical skills.

Shifts are 11.5hours and you will be expected to work a combination of days, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide and maintain a high standard of care based upon and reflecting the Trust values to patients receiving haemodialysis and outpatients attending clinics or the unit for other treatments related to their renal failure.
  • Contribute significantly toward the strategic and operational development of the Ward.
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager in his/her absence across the full range of management responsibilities.
  • Lead in a specific area of ward practice, as agreed, making recommendations, coordinating projects and developing practice guidelines and policies based upon robust evidence, gained from risk assessment, audit and literature review.
  • Assist the Ward Manager with the recruitment, interviewing and selection of staff.
  • Promote effective communication and teamwork at all levels.
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership skills and evidence of specialist knowledge.
  • Develop, manage and monitor the performance of a team of nurses, ensuring that the highest standards of care and safety are achieved and maintained at all times.

    Be professionally accountable for assessment of the patients needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of planned care, demonstrating a collaborative approach through effective communication and decision-making between the multi-professional team, patients and significant others.

    Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in the management of the changing health care needs of the patient, responding to changes promptly and appropriately and developing specialised plans of care/ follow relevant protocols in collaboration with other senior nurses/medical staff.
